    • A canister is comprised of a casing including a top wall, a vertical wall, first and second chambers formed in the casing and each accommodating an adsorbent, and a partition member partitioning the first and second chambers from each other. A plurality of first protuberances are formed on the inner surface of the top wall at a portion thereof facing toward the first chamber, and a plurality of second protuberances on the inner surface of the vertical wall at a portion thereof facing toward the first chamber. First and second filters are mounted in the first chamber in a fashion abutting on the plurality of the first and second protuberances, respectively. A first space is defined in the top wall between the first filter and the portion of the inner surface of the top wall, and a second space is defined in the vertical wall between the second filter and the portion of the inner surface of the vertical surface and communicates with the first space. A charging port and a purging port are each formed in the top wall at a location corresponding to the first chamber and each open into the first space. An atmospheric air port is formed in the top wall at a location corresponding to the second chamber.

    • An evaporative fuel-processing system for an internal combustion engine comprises an evaporative emission control system including a canister having an air inlet port formed therein for introducing atmosphere into the canister and accommodating an adsorbent for adsorbing evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank. A charging passage connects between the canister and the fuel tank. A two-way valve is arranged across the charging passage. A purging passage connects between the canister and the intake system. A purge control valve is arranged across the purging passage. An ECU carries out leak-checking of the evaporative emission control system. A negative pressure responsive-type bypass valve is arranged across a bypass passage bypassing the two-way valve. A negative pressure responsive-type vent shut valve is disposed to open and close the air inlet port of the canister. The ECU controls the bypass valve and the vent shut valve to open and close, by means of negative pressure developed within the intake system.

    • In an evaporative fuel processing device, a canister is divided into first, second, third and fourth chambers by partition walls. A control valve is provided in a communication passage which connects the second and third chambers to each other. A first charge passage is connected to an upper space in a fuel tank and to a port in the third chamber, and a second charge passage is connected to a fuel supply valve for the fuel tank and to a port in the first chamber. Further, a purge passage is connected to an intake passage of an internal combustion engine and to a port in the first chamber. The control valve is connected to an electronic control unit, and opened during refueling and during traveling of a vehicle and closed during parking of the vehicle. Thus, it is possible to reliably prevent an evaporative fuel from being released to the atmosphere, while the capacity of the canister to a minimum.

    • An evaporative emission control system for an internal combustion engine comprises a canister for adsorbing evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank, and a first evaporative fuel passage extending between the canister and the tank main body of the fuel tank. A differential pressure-operated valve is arranged across the first evaporative fuel passage, which has a positive pressure chamber communicating through the first evaporative fuel passage with the interior of the tank main body of the fuel tank, and a back pressure chamber. The differential pressure-operated valve opens and closes the first evaporative fuel passage in response to a difference in pressure between the positive pressure chamber and the back pressure chamber. A pressure-introducing passage extends between the back pressure chamber and the inlet end portion of a filler pipe extending from the interior of the main body of the fuel tank, and a second evaporative fuel passage extends between the interior of the tank main body of the fuel tank and one of the back pressure chamber and the pressure-introducing passage. A check valve limits the amount of evaporative fuel flowing through the second evaporative fuel passage.
