    • A leeward upper header portion of an evaporator includes first through third sections which communicate with upper ends of heat exchange tubes of first through third tube groups of a leeward tube row. The second tube group, which is an upward flow tube group, and the third tube group, which is a downward flow tube group, form a tube group set. A baffle plate is provided in the second section to be located on the side toward the third section. The baffle plate divides a portion of the interior of the second section into upper and lower spaces and prevents flow of refrigerant toward the upper space. A flow prevention member is provided below the baffle plate so as to prevent flow of refrigerant from the second section into the third section. These two sections communicate with each other in a region above the baffle plate.

    • A heat exchanger comprising a heat exchange core composed of tube groups in the form of rows arranged in the direction of flow of air through the exchanger, each of the tube groups including a plurality of heat exchange tubes arranged at a spacing. A refrigerant inlet header and a refrigerant outlet header are positioned at the upper end of the core and having respective groups of heat exchange tubes joined thereto. A refrigerant turn tank is disposed at the lower end of the core. The turn tank has its interior divided by a partition wall into a refrigerant inflow header and a refrigerant outflow header. The heat exchange tubes have lower end portions inserted in the headers and are joined to the headers. Refrigerant passing holes are formed in the partition wall. The heat exchange tubes have their lower ends positioned below the lower ends of the holes.

    • An evaporator includes two header tanks and a plurality of heat exchange tubes disposed therebetween. The interior of a refrigerant inlet header section of the first header tank is divided into two spaces by a first flow diverging plate. The heat-exchange-tube-side space of the refrigerant inlet header section is divided into a plurality of sections by a first partition plate. Flow diverging openings are provided in portions of the first flow diverging plate facing the sections. The interiors of first and second intermediate header sections of the second header tank are each divided into sections, equal in number to those of the refrigerant inlet header section. The heat exchange tubes communicating with the sections of the refrigerant inlet header section communicate with the sections of the first intermediate header section, and the sections of the first intermediate header section communicate with the corresponding sections of the second intermediate header section.

Each of the header tanks includes two header sections. Each header tank includes a first member to which the heat exchange tubes are connected, a second member which is joined to the first member and covers the side of the first member opposite the heat exchange tubes, and a partition plate disposed between the first and second members and having partition portions which divide the interiors of the two header sections into respective upper and lower spaces. Through holes are formed in the partition portions so as to establish communication between the upper and lower spaces of the header sections.

The interior of the inlet header is divided by a flow dividing control wall into an upper space for admitting a refrigerant thereinto through the refrigerant inlet and a lower space communicating with the heat exchange tubes. The control wall has a communication hole formed in an end portion thereof opposite to the refrigerant inlet. The upper and lower spaces communicate with each other through the communication hole so that the refrigerant flows through the lower space in a direction opposite to the direction of flow of the refrigerant in the upper space. The evaporator achieves a high heat exchange efficiency.

    • An evaporator implemented by a laminated heat exchanger includes a refrigerant inlet header section, a refrigerant outlet header section, and plural inter mediate header sections. A sixth intermediate header section includes a refrigerant channel allowing refrigerant flow in the longitudinal direction thereof and whose downstream end with respect to the refrigerant flow direction is closed, and causes refrigerant to dividedly flow into a plurality of refrigerant flow tube portions. Refrigerant that has flown into the refrigerant inlet header section from a refrigerant inlet flows into the refrigerant outlet header section through the refrigerant flow tube portions and through the intermediate header sections and flows out from a refrigerant outlet. A resistive plate portion within the sixth intermediate header section blocks the refrigerant channel thereof extending in the longitudinal direction thereof. A resistive hole in the resistive plate portion imparts resistance to refrigerant that flows through the refrigerant channel.
