    • In a pumping device (1) by means of which fluids (10) or pourable media held in a reservoir tank (9) can be pumped to a spray gun (11) in a metered manner, with a piston rod (5) mounted in a housing (2) in an axially movable fashion, with a reciprocating piston (25) attached to its free end, with a piston (7, 8) firmly connected to the piston rod (5) that can be moved between a first and a second housing section (3, 4), and by means of which a first and a second pressure space (21, 21′, 22, 22′) is each enclosed together with the two housing sections (3, 4), with two pressure lines (17, 17′) worked into one each of the two housing sections (3, 4) in such a way that they emerge into one of the two pressure spaces (21, 21′ or 22, 22′), with a working medium (19) pressed through the pressure lines (17, 17′) alternately into the particular pressure space (21, 21′, 22, 22′), by means of which the piston (7, 8) can be driven, with a diaphragm (12, 13) with a central area (14) firmly connected to the piston rod (5) and its outer area (15) firmly connected to the housing (2), and with its flexible ring area (16) provided between the central and the outer areas (14, 15) configured as a compensation and sealing element, and with a pumping space (20) enclosed by the diaphragm (12, 13) and the housing (2), into which the fluid (10) or material is alternately sucked in or pressed out towards the spray gun (11) by the axial movement of the reciprocating piston (25), it should be possible reliably to determine the sealing status of the diaphragm (12, 13) inserted in the pumping device (1) permanently or at least from time to time, in order to be able to shut off the pumping device (1) if necessary if the diaphragm (12, 13) is damaged, so as to prevent contamination or impurities passing between the fluid (10) or material and the hydraulic oil (19).This is achieved in that a control space (31) is formed between the second housing section (3) and the diaphragm (12, 13) in which a negative pressure prevails, and that the negative pressure status of the control space (31) can be monitored from the outside.
