摘要： The present invention essentially comprises an activation unit of an overhead door backup spring system operable upon failure of a spring, and method of using an activation unit. The activation unit has a rotating and sliding plunger that is operated upon failure of a spring. The activation unit can be used with an engagement unit that is engageable with an auxiliary spring to transfer torque from the auxiliary spring to an overhead door shaft. A plunger sleeve supports and guides the plunger by way of a sleeve slot that receives a plunger pin extending from the plunger. A plunger spring biases the plunger, while the sleeve slot retains the plunger in a biased state until activation by a portion of the spring upon failure of the spring.

The spring engagement system has a spring engagement unit operably associated with a spring, and an engagement unit operably associated with the spring engagement unit. The engagement unit is engageable with the spring engagement unit in an engaged position upon activation thereof. The engagement unit can transfer torque from the spring to a shaft in the engaged position. The engagement unit is actuating by engagement of an activation unit, which is actuated upon failure of the main spring associated with an overhead door.

摘要： The present invention essentially comprises an overhead door backup spring system and method for providing an auxiliary spring counterweight to operate an overhead door shaft upon failure of a spring. The system has an activation unit, an engagement unit operably associated with the activation unit, and an auxiliary spring engagement unit operably associated with the engagement unit and an auxiliary spring. The engagement unit is engageable with the auxiliary spring to transfer torque from the auxiliary spring to the overhead door shaft. In an engaged position the engagement unit is engaged with the auxiliary spring engagement unit upon operation of the activation unit when the spring fails. In a non-engaged position the engagement unit is in non-engagement with the auxiliary spring engagement unit.

A non-engaged position has the engagement post engaged with the spring post, and the engagement block not engaged with the spring post.
