    • Black polyurethane foams that exhibit higher strength black colorations without the need for concomitant increases in black colorants therein are provided. Such a resultant jetter black foam article is possible through the unexpectedly effective introduction of small amounts of certain toner compounds or combinations that exhibit specific measurable appearance characteristics. Such toners exhibit at least one absorption peak within a specific range of wavelengths (e.g., from about 560 to 610 nm) and specific ranges of half-height bandwidths (from 40 to 130 nm). Furthermore, such a compound or combination of compounds, is preferably liquid in nature (at room temperature) or in dispersion form and may thus be easily incorporated within target polyurethane precursor compositions for admixture with either black pigments (or dispersions thereof), black polymeric (liquid) colorants, or both. Methods of high strength black polyurethane foam production as well as separate pigmented and liquid polymeric colored foams of such type including the necessary toner compounds and/or combinations, as noted above, are also encompassed within this invention.

    • A novel colorant compound is provided which is the addition product of an organic chromophore having at least one reactive hydroxyl or amine substituent, a mono or polyisocyanate, and/or an alcohol. Such a compound provides solubility in oil-based ink compositions, complete water resistance and excellent oil based ink compositions. Furthermore, such colorants provide an easy and efficient way to tone shades of oil based inks. In addition, such colorants provide a way to tone carbon black based lithographic inks that gives the images a appearance of jet black on various types of printing substrates. A method for producing such a colorant is also provided, as well as offset ink compositions comprising such a colorant (including other colorants that provide the same toner performance within black pigment formulations).

    • This invention relates to very specific oxyalkylene-substituted aminophenol compounds as intermediates for the production of poly(oxyalkylene)-substituted xanthene (or other type) colorants. Such an inventive intermediate compound is produced in a single step by reacting an oxyalkylene oxide having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms (branched or unbranched), glycidol, or a glycidyl directly with aminophenol without the use of a catalyst and at a relatively low temperature. Propylene oxide and m-aminophenol are the preferred reactants. The propylene oxide selectively reacts with the amine group on the m-aminophenol without propoxylating the phenolic hydroxyl group. Such a specific method thus does not require extra time- and cost-consuming steps of protecting the phenolic hydroxyl group from attack. After production, this intermediate may be reacted with suitable compounds to ultimately form any number of different colorants, including xanthenes, oxazines, coumarins, and the like. The resultant oxypropylene groups may subsequently be reacted with electrophile compounds to produce any number of different colorants. Resultant colorants produced through the reaction of the inventive intermediate are also contemplated within this invention.
