    • An automobile antenna system for detecting currents induced in a vehicle body by broadcast waves and transmitting the detected current signals to a receiver located in the vehicle body is provided without externally projected antenna poles. The system comprises high-frequency pickup means longitudinally disposed along and in close proximity with the marginal edge portion of the vehicle body, the pickup means being effective to detect surface high-frequency currents which are induced on the vehicle body and concentrated into the marginal edge of the vehicle body, for example, a vehicle roof panel, a rearwindow frame or a vehicle fender. The pickup means is spaced away from the marginal edge of the vehicle body within a range represented by the following formula: 12.times.10.sup.-3 c/f(m) where c=the velocity of light and f=the carrier frequency of broadcast waves.

    • The present invention provides a vehicle antenna system embedded in the vehicle body for efficiently detecting external waves and transmitting the detected signals to an onboard receiver. The antenna system includes a metallic armor member arranged extending along the vehicle body and electrically insulated from the vehicle frame and an antenna element disposed in close proximity to the metallic armor member without outwardly extending from the vehicle body. The metallic armor member is preferably a side molding on the vehicle body. The antenna element is in the form of an antenna wire or loop antenna disposed extending along the length of the side molding. The antenna element is intersected by an alternating field created by the surface currents on the metallic armor member to generate high frequency currents in the antenna element, the generated currents being then transmitted directly to the onboard receiver through a cable.

    • The present invention provides an autombile antenna system for detecting surface currents induced on the vehicle body by radio waves. The antenna system includes an electrostatic shielding case mounted on the vehicle body and having an opening formed therein. The opening in the case faces a metallic plate in the vehicle body and a loop antenna is housed within the case and disposed in close proximity to the opening thereof. The loop antenna has a plane of the loop positioned relative to the surface of the metallic vehicle plate at an angle in the range of 90 degrees to 135 degrees or 225 degrees to 270 degrees, whereby the antenna system can more efficiently detect the surface currents induced on the vehicle body by radio waves and can be miniaturized and improved in performance without any externally protruding member.

    • The present invention provides a vehicle antenna system including high frequency pickup type antennas concealed within the vehicle body for receiving broadcast waves.
