    • A necklace is provided including an elongated flexible support member for encircling the neck of a wearer and the support member includes a predetermined portion thereof adapted to overlie the central chest portion of the wearer. The predetermined portion includes structure defining a journal and an axially short shank extends and is rotatably received through the journal and includes first and second ends which extend in forward and rearward directions, respectively, when the support member is being worn as a necklace. A gem stone is mounted on the first end of the shank member and the second shank member end includes radially outwardly extending lever structure supported therefrom for frictional engagement with underlying clothing or skin of the wearer and thereby is operative to effect angular displacement of the shank member and the gem stone relative to the journal responsive to lateral displacement of the journal relative to the underlying clothing or skin with which the lever structure is engaged. The lever structure comprises a disc substantially concentric with the shank member and the side of the disc remote from the gem stone is concave.

    • A safety clutch for an earring has a body member provided with a through hole arranged for receiving a post of an earring or other article to be releasably attached to the body member. Provided on the body member is a suitable resilient biasing arrangement disposed for normally engaging with the post of the earring and holding the post secure with respect to the body member. The retainer includes a clutch pin slidably disposed in a recess provided in the body member and arranged communicating with the hole so as to cause the clutch pin to selectively come into retaining engagement with a groove provided in the post of the associated earring. A coiled helical spring or other suitable biasing device is disposed in the bottom of the recess, beneath the clutch pin, for forcing the pin toward a position in which the pin engagingly holds the post in place in the hole provided in the body member.

    • A valve with a calibrated flow orifice insert for use in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (“HVAC”) applications so as to provide metered flow through the valve. The insert is used as a flow control device and is inserted into a conventional threaded ball valve. The insert has a cylindrical axial bore that is sized to provide a maximum valve flow coefficient. Peripheral threads on the insert mate with interior threads on the inlet of the valve body. A pair of bores on the face of the insert permit threaded insertion into the valve. The axial orifice bore through the insert is sized using experimentally-determined formulas related to the Reynolds numbers for the orifice and for the piping upstream of the insert.

    • A system for image generation is provided which includes a device for controlling the sweep voltages of a CRT so that realistic views of the earth can be projected on a curved screen surface from a flat transparency and for generating a haze band between the earth and sky interface of the projected scene. The preferred embodiment is an aircraft flight simulator in which real world scenes are projected and updated in accordance with simulated aircraft maneuvers. Various visual flight cures are or can be presented to an operator during training. These flight cues include a dynamic haze or cloud band along the projection of the earth and sky interface. The system permits image projection with six degrees of freedom (yaw, pitch, roll, altitude, north/south and east/west vector components) over simulated terrain. In the preferred embodiment, the haze or cloud band generation is accomplished so that it is compatible with a single projector technique.
