    • A manifold structure is defined by a pair of stacked plates which define a void: one of these plates has three or more aperture-surrounding bosses which project into the void; the other of these plates has a plurality of protuberances. Each of the protuberances engages between a respective pair of the bosses. A heat exchange element is formed of a plurality of stacked plates, these plates defining a stack of tubes. The tube stack interiorly defines a plurality of U-shaped passages, these passages being distinct from one another. Each tube defines a respective one of the U-shaped passages and is received in plug-fit relation by a respective one of the bosses. The tubes, bosses and protuberances separate the void into a pair of manifolds. Each of the U-shaped passages leads from one of the manifolds to the other of the manifolds.

    • The invention relates to a heat exchanger (10), in particular, for exhaust coolers on internal combustion engines. The aim of the invention is to provide a separation of the carrier medium flow into two partial flows as leak free as possible, by suitable embodiment of the baffle plate (40). A heat exchanger (10), as used, in particular, as exhaust gas cooler for internal combustion engines, comprises a heat exchanger channel (14) and a bypass channel (11), whereby a switching flap (20) is arranged upstream of the heat exchanger (10) in the flow channel (25), which divides the incoming carrier medium into the heat exchanger channel (14) and the bypass channel (11). A baffle plate (40) is provided to maintain the separation between the partial flow through the bypass channel (11) and the partial flow through the heat exchanger channel (14), which, according to the invention, extends from the switching flap (20) to the beginning of the bypass channel (11).

    • A valve apparatus can be used to select between a cold or a hot coolant for heat exchange, this selection depending on whether an attached heat exchanger is to operate as a cooler or a heater. The apparatus includes a valve housing with first and second chambers formed therein, first inlet and outlet ports for flow of a primary liquid into and out of the first chamber and further ports for flow of coolant at different temperatures through the second chamber. A linear actuator in the housing has a body containing wax and a plastic piston that is movable to an extended position by expansion of the wax. The actuator body is located in the first chamber so the temperature of the wax is dependent on the liquid's temperature in the first chamber. An end portion of the actuator adjacent to the second chamber is made of plastic. A valve mechanism for controlling coolant flow is operably connected to the piston and located in the second chamber. This mechanism includes a spool movable by the actuator.

    • A heat exchanger for heat exchange between two liquids comprises a core comprised of formed plates connected to one another in a stack, these plates including first and second end plates and intermediate plates. Each of the plates has a central section and the first end plate and the intermediate plates each have an edge wall extending outwardly from its respective central section at an angle. The core has inlet and outlet holes in the main plate sections. The plates are in sealed engagement with one another and the central sections of at least the first end plate and the intermediate plates are spaced apart from respective adjacent central sections to form liquid flow passages. The second end plate is formed with an integral ridge extending snugly along the edge wall of the adjacent plate. This ridge is spaced from the edge of the end plate so as to provide one or more mounting flanges.
