摘要： A disposable surgical instrument holder for holding a number of surgical instruments, tubes and wires includes a narrow, elongate base member that can be attached adhesively to a patient's body or drape. A plurality of flaps are releasably attached to the base member by way of hinges and hook and loop fasteners. Each flap can be pulled back from the base member and then can be resecured once an instrument has been inserted between the flap and the base member. The holder can be provided with a sheet of abrasive material in order to permit surgical instruments to be cleaned during the course of an operation. The holders can be stored within sterile packages for use whenever convenient to the surgeon.

Desirably, the surface of the container in contact with the table is provided with adhesive that will prevent undesired movement of the container relative to either the table or the patient. If desired, the edges of the first sheet can be provided with adhesive surfaces, or possibly hook and loop fasteners, in order to secure the edges of the first sheet to selected portions of the operating table. Alternative embodiments include a second sheet that can be used to cover other portions of the operating table and a third sheet that can be used to cover portions of the patient during pre-operation preparations.

摘要： A method and apparatus for the amelioration of sleep apnea and other obstructive breathing disorders in a patient includes a collar configured to encircle the patient's neck, and a jaw-engagement mechanism carried by the collar. The jaw-engagement mechanism includes a pad configured to contact the underside of the patient's lower jaw in the area of the anterior triangle behind the mandibular symphysis and to be received in a small hollow of the patient's jaw. In use, the pad can apply force against a surface of the patient's lower jaw in order to push it forwardly and upwardly. The pad preferably is secured to a movable post that can be positioned such that a desired amount of force is applied to the patient's lower jaw.

If such a cover is used, it will contact the conduit in order to cushion the contact between the members and the conduit, minimize the tendency of the conduit to bleed, and increase traction relative to the conduit. The leg has an upper surface and a lower surface that are spaced apart to define a chamber. The lower surface includes a plurality of openings that are disposed adjacent each other. A support arm is connected to the leg in order to position the leg as desired. A suction line is in fluid communication with the chamber in order to create a vacuum within the chamber. The stabilizer can be used to stabilize any desired portion of a patient's body, but is particularly effective at stabilizing the septum of a patient's heart. Such stabilization can be accomplished by inserting the leg into the patient's heart through the aorta.

摘要： A cage plate for spinal fusion includes a cage made of a biologically inert material such as titanium, the cage being sufficiently porous to facilitate bony ingrowth and spinal fusion, and a plate to which the cage is attached, the plate being made of a biologically inert material such as titanium. In the preferred embodiment, the plate is generally rectangular and has a longitudinal axis that in use is disposed parallel with the longitudinal axis of the spinal column, the plate being curved when viewed from the end, the curvature approximating that of the vertebral bodies to be fused, and the plate being curved when viewed from the side, the curvature approximating that of the vertebral bodies to be fused. The plate includes a plurality of openings adjacent its corners. In use, an opening is formed in the spinal column of approximately the same size and shape as the cage. The cage is inserted into the opening. In addition, several small openings are formed in the vertebral bodies. Bone screws are inserted through the openings in the plate and into the small openings in the vertebral bodies. The plate and the cage thus are secured to the vertebral bodies and the vertebral bodies are immobilized.

However, when the clamp locking means are locked the clamp locking means securely fix the retractor blade relative to the clamp support so that the retractor blade resists movement and will counteract the tension applied as the cardiovascular retractor is used.
