    • A self-latching jaw assembly is illustrated which includes a pair of latching jaws (A) and (B) for latching a fitting of an associated structure such as the keel fitting (50) of a space telescope. The jaw assembly automatically locates the fitting received on a positioning pedestal (52) and latches it in its original location on the pedestal without need of precision alignment. The first jaw (A) is actuated and moved to the right whereupon a reciprocating plunger (62) will have been extended from the nose (64) of the jaw and will sense the hub (50b) of the spool (50a). A jaw position responsive switch (72) is then actuated to terminate the drive motor (E) of the jaw (A). The astronaut will then actuate the drive motor (F) of the jaw (B) and the jaw will move to the left whereupon standoff (82) will engage the face (64a) of the jaw (A) in a latching position. In the latching position, the noses (64) and (83) of the jaws (A) and (B) will be under the flanges of the spool (50a).

    • A system for testing bearings wherein a pair of spaced bearings provide support for a shaft on which is mounted a bearing to be tested, with a bearing holder spaced from and in alignment with the pair of bearings. The bearing holder is provided with an annular collar positioned in an opening in the bearing holder for holding the bearing to be tested. A screw threaded through the bearing holder into engagement with the collar can be turned to move the collar radially out of alignment with the pair of bearings to apply a radial load to the bearing.

    • A modular fire-fighting unit can be used on the ground as an individual fire piece connected to a water source such as a hydrant, for producing foam or as a nurse unit to other fire apparatus, or it can be quickly mounted on, or demounted from, a portable source of water such as a 5,000 gallon tank truck, for producing foam to extinguish runway fires. The module includes a protein tank, an AFFF tank, an inflexible connection to a source of water, mixing valves and a motor driven pump so that foam may be dispersed from either a turret gun or an airport spreader bar.
