    • An apparatus for extracting bodily fluid (e.g., whole blood) from a user's finger includes a housing with a lancing mechanism and a clamping mechanism attached to thereto. The clamping mechanism includes a lower arm assembly and an upper arm assembly. The upper and lower arm assemblies are operatively connected such that when a user's finger applies a user force to the lower arm assembly and displaces the lower arm assembly from a first to a second position, the upper and lower arm assemblies cooperate to engage the user's finger with a compressive force that is greater than the user force. In addition, the lancing mechanism is configured to lance a target site on the user's finger while the upper and lower arm assemblies are cooperating to engage the user's finger. Thereafter, the compressive force serves to extract a bodily fluid sample from the lanced target site.

    • The present invention relates to the use of a low frequency ultrasonic device for the delivery and activation of collagen based foam sealants to a human and/or animal patient for sealing puncture wounds in vascular tissues. The ultrasonic vascular closure device comprises an ultrasonic generator, an ultrasound transducer, a chamber containing a foam sealant, a transducer tip, a radiation surface, an orifice located at the distal end of the chamber. The foam sealant is ejected into a puncture wound and activated with ultrasonic waves emitting from the radiation surface. The ultrasonic waves induce vibrations within the foam sealant, slightly warming the foam sealants to assist the rapid sealing the puncture. The ultrasonic waves also provide and anesthetic effect for the pain and discomfort from the puncture site.

    • A bodily fluid extraction device includes a penetration member configured for penetrating a target site and subsequently residing within the target site and extracting a bodily fluid sample. The penetration member includes a proximal end adapted for fluid communication with an analyte analysis system, a distal end, and a channel extending from the distal to the proximal end. The distal end includes a sharp portion for penetrating a target site, and a flexible feature adapted for promoting bodily fluid flow into the channel by protruding into the target site after the penetration member has penetrated the target site. A method for extracting bodily fluid includes providing a bodily fluid extraction device as described immediately above. Subsequently, a target site is penetrated with the distal end of the bodily fluid extraction device's penetration member and the flexible portion of the penetration member is caused to protrude into the target site and promote bodily fluid flow into the penetration member's channel. Bodily fluid (e.g., ISF) is then extracted from the target site (e.g., a dermal tissue target site) via the channel of the bodily fluid extraction device.
