    • A compact linear operator is provided for a gas valve. The operator may be of modular form for operative combination with combination gas controls of existing design, as by threaded engagement with an existing threaded bore in the control. The operator is suited for directly controlling displacement of a valve or more typically, for controlling displacement of the seat for the regulating spring associated with a servo pressure regulating diaphragm/valve arrangement. The operator includes a controllably heated bimetallic actuator, and a plunger directly or indirectly driven linearly by deflection of the actuator. To enhance compactness of the operator, a displacement-amplifying lever is interposed between the actuator and the plunger. Stops are included for establishing "high fire" and "low fire" limits for the regulated gas pressure.

    • A burner control system for gas fired apparatus of the powered blower vent type wherein a diaphagm valve for controlling the supply of gas to the main burner of the apparatus is operated by a gas bleed line which is subject to pressure regulation by a servo regulator valve. The bleed line is also subject to on-off control by pneumatically operated bleed valve means which are responsive to the subatmospheric fluid pressure produced in the exhaust vent of the apparatus by an exhaust blower to permit opening of the diaphragm valve only when the fluid pressure level within the exhaust vent is sufficiently below atmospheric pressure. The control system preferably includes switching circuit means which are effective to energize the exhaust blower only during the existence of a pilot burner flame adequate to ignite the main burner.

    • An igniter and flame sensor electrode assembly which is suitable for mounting in a conventional thermocouple bracket in close proximity to a fuel burner so that the assembly can be employed in an ignition system to ignite the burner and sense a flame due to its conductive and/or rectification properties. The assembly is shaped similar to a conventional thermocouple and includes a tubular shaped probe having an ignition port in which the igniter element is mounted and a sleeve therearound which forms the flame sensing electrode. The housing for the igniter and flame sensor electrode is formed in two halves and the electrical connections to the flame sensing electrode and igniter element are made by lead wires located in axial bores within the housing.

    • A snap acting heat motor operated gas valve having a valve member carried by a spring blade that is secured to one end of an electrically heated control bimetal strip. Magnetic means associated with the spring blade normally bias the valve member to a closed position to permit opening of the valve member upon a predetermined heating of the control bimetal member and to effect a snap action opening and closing of the valve member. An ambient temperature compensating bimetal member has a cantilever portion in spaced relation to the control bimetal strip and acting on the spring blade to offset the effects of ambient temperature changes upon the control bimetal member.

    • A four way valve assembly for a reversible cycle refrigeration system in which a rotary valve accomplishes the switching between heating and cooling modes. The rotary valve is mounted in a cavity in a housing and is designed to be rotated by a unidirectional electric motor. The rotary valve comprises a plate having a pair of recesses in it, which each acts to connect a pair of ports in a base plate together. A high pressure bypass port maintains the pressure in the cavity at a relatively high level such that the high pressure tends to increase the abutting contact between the valve plate and the base plate. A cam and switch arrangement provides the necessary control to stop and start the electric motor.
