    • An Internet protocol television (IPTV) system is driven by a graphical user interface (GUI) controlled by an input device attached to an Internet access device that in turn connects to the GUI over IPTV connections. The input device may be a keyboard, smart phone, iPad, mouse, personal computer, laptop, touch screen, or other generic universal serial bus (USB), IEEE 1394 (FireWire), or other connected device. Connection between the input device and the GUI may be either wired (including, but not limited to USB, IEEE 1394, and Ethernet) or wireless (including, without limitation, infrared (IR), radio frequency, or other form of electromagnetic transmission). Regardless of connection method, the input device acts to operate and command the IPTV GUI so as to navigate and control the IPTV. By appropriate GUI implementations, a single input device may be configured to operate one or more windows on one or more display via IPTV connections.

    • A cloud-based internet protocol television (IPTV) system is described here. In this invention, the cloud acts as a personal video recorder for recording and playback of audio, video, and other content. Communications to and from the cloud are transmitted over IPTV. An allowance for resolution and refresh rate conversion allows for high bandwidth content to be converted into lower bandwidth content. In this way, content stored from a high definition television may be converted to a content stream playable by a smart phone of limited capabilities. By using the cloud as storage, local devices may play only the IPTV streams, without the substantial storage capacities required for high definition video. IPTV-based menus are used to select media for recording and playback.

    • A system, method, and computer program product are provided for enabling client devices to transparently access cloud computing services, service storage, and related data via a gateway server that connects to an external network such as the internet or a social network. Data requests are transmitted from at least one client device to the gateway server. The gateway server determines if the data request cannot be satisfied by data stored in its memory, and responsively transmits a second data request to the external network and stores data received in response to the second data request in its memory. The gateway server then satisfies the data request using the stored data, which may include a web computing service, an application program interface, streaming data, metadata, and/or media data.
