    • A process controls application of a release agent to an intermediate imaging member in a printer rotating the intermediate imaging member in a single direction to generate and transfer an image. The process includes moving a release agent applicator into engagement with a rotating imaging member to apply release agent to the rotating imaging member, and subsequently engaging the rotating imaging member with a wiper blade so the wiper blade encounters a the applied release agent bar before the applied release agent reaches a transferring roller. The process further involves the disengagement of release agent applicator with variable time dwell and delayed disengagement of release agent wiper blade to reduce release agent bar. The engagement and disengagement of the release agent applicator and the release agent wiper blade are coordinated by two cams to reduce the likelihood that release agent is transferred to a transferring roller in a quantity sufficient to degrade image quality during duplex printing.

    • A release agent applicator applies release agent to an imaging drum and absorbs release agent metered from the drum to extend the operational life of a image drum maintenance unit. The applicator includes a reservoir for storing release agent, the reservoir having a plurality of perforations for enabling release agent to seep from the reservoir, a containment membrane mounted to the reservoir for wicking release agent from the perforations of the reservoir, and a delivery layer mounted to the containment membrane for delivering release agent from the containment membrane to an imaging drum that is in contact with the delivery layer. The delivery layer is matched to the containment membrane to maintain a saturation rate for the delivery layer in a predetermined range and the delivery layer has an uptake rate for release agent contacting an external boundary of the delivery layer that is greater than a release agent supply rate from the containment membrane to the delivery layer.

    • The present disclosure provides a method for controlling printing in a solid ink jet printing system. The method comprises forming a first ink image and a second ink image on a transfer surface; passing a receiving substrate through a first nip simplex path of a first ink jet printer at a first print speed; exerting a first pressure on the receiving substrate in the first nip to transfer the first ink image from the transfer surface to a first side of the receiving substrate; moving the receiving substrate through an inverter path; passing the receiving substrate through a second nip simplex path of a second ink jet printer at a second print speed; and, exerting a second pressure on the receiving substrate in the second nip to transfer the second ink image from the transfer surface to a second side of the receiving substrate.
