    • Described is a system and method for establishing a wireless connection between wireless devices. The method comprises obtaining data of a corresponding computing device. The device conducts wireless communications using a predetermined wireless protocol. The obtained data is processed to generate a wireless address of the device and a first message is transmitted to the device for establishing a wireless connection. The first message is addressed to the wireless address. When a first response message is received from the device, a second message is transmitted to the device. The first response message is generated in response to the first message and includes the wireless address. The second message includes synchronization data. When a second response message is received from the device, the wireless connection is established with the device. The second response message is generated in response to the second message.

    • A computing arrangement may include a first radio transceiver operating in accordance with a first communication protocol using a frequency band and a second radio transceiver operating in accordance with a second communication protocol using the frequency band. An access point operates in accordance with the first communication protocol and transmits a communication signal that has a frame including a first time interval indicative of when communications using the first communication protocol via the frequency band are permitted to the computing arrangement. The computing arrangement determines if the frame includes a second time interval, which is indicative of and is reserved for exclusive communications in accordance with the second communication protocol. If the second time interval is absent from the frame, the computing arrangement inserts the second time interval into the frame. The computing arrangement communicates with a further device only during the second time interval.

    • Systems and methodologies for implementing Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) security are provided herein. As disclosed herein, firewall functionality can be implemented for a WPAN-capable device to control access to resources of the device over a WPAN. In one example, a WPAN protocol can be extended to include low-level access control measures that enable analysis of communication requests to and/or from a device prior to acting on the requests. As described herein, a WPAN firewall associated with a device can be configured to block, monitor, and/or log respective resource accesses to and/or from a WPAN. WPAN firewall functionality as described herein can be configured using mechanisms such as an Application Programming Interface (API) and/or a user control interface. Additionally, lateral regulation of security policies for a WPAN and one or more other networks utilized by a device can be provided.

    • A configurable operating system allows small, inexpensive, and less powerful computers to run a wide variety of applications. The operating system provides for the capability to accept input from a number of input devices, and transfer the data to the appropriate application without using an application to perform the routing tasks, thus freeing up more processor time and memory space for the applications. Data format translator applications may be called by the operating system in order to convert the data to the proper format. The decision as to which application should be called may be made by using information on the input device which the data came from, as well as additional information, to determine if a conversion application or other application is required. A method for using the operating system may include the steps of: receiving data from an input device; determining the type of the input device; choosing one or more applications to send the data through based on the type of the input device; and sending the data to the first of the applications, receiving data from the first of the applications, and repeating for the next of the applications until reaching the last of the applications.
