    • A high performance heat transfer tube for use in an evaporator of a refrigeration system is disclosed. The tube has at least one helically extending fin convolution on its external surface and at least one helically extending rib on its internal surface. The fin convolution has bent over tip portions which touch the adjacent convolution to form subsurface passages at those sections of the fin convolution which are not located above an internal rib. Depressed sections of the fin convolution located above an internal rib have bent over tip portions which do not touch the adjacent convolution to form cavities. The subsurface passages and cavities form a subsurface channel having fluid communication with the surroundings of the tube through the cavity openings.

    • A removable elastomeric blade hub and switch housing plate adapter for a ceiling fan to facilitate replacement of the blade hub are disclosed. The fan comprises a motor, a motor shaft, a wire-way tube carried by the motor shaft and a wire termination receptacle connected to the ends of the motor leads carried within the wire-way tube. The elastomeric blade hub has a boss with a bore through the center thereof sized to receive the wire receptacle and the shaft. The hub boss has a set screw on the side thereof to removably secure the blade hub to the shaft. A switch housing adapter plate is removably connected to the wire-way tube beneath the blade hub such that if replacement of the elastomeric hub is required, the switch housing adapter plate and hub may readily be removed from the wire way and from this motor shaft without removing the securement hardware, cutting the leads, or removing the receptacle from the leads.

    • A wall mounted electric room heater includes a wall box adapted to be secured between a pair of wall studs and having an open front and side walls extending from a back wall. A heater/blower assembly carried by a frame is disposed in the box and includes and electric resistance heating element mounted in a venturi having an inlet spaced from the back wall and an outlet communicating with the open front. A fan is mounted within the venturi for drawing air from the room through the open front into the wall box outside the venturi to the venturi inlet for flow through the venturi over the heating element to be heated and discharge from the venturi outlet and through the open front into the room. An air straightener as installed on the venturi downstream of the fan for causing the heated air to discharge from the venturi outlet in substantially axial direction to prevent the heated air from being entrained with the room air being drawn into the wall box by the fan. A louvered grill overlies the open front of the box and the air straightener. A partition carried by the frame cooperates with the back and side walls of the box to define a wiring compartment.

    • A fan end bracket for a motorized fan assembly has a plurality of curvilinear tapered air passages. Each air passage includes a flow port, such that air being moved by a rotating fan assembly is directed through the air passages and the flow ports. A skeletal motor assembly is affixed to one side of the end bracket such that the motor shaft is disposed through a shaft aperture in the end bracket. A rotating fan member is affixed to the motor shaft adjacent to the other side of the end bracket. A shroud member is provided to shroud the rotating fan member so as to cause the flow of air to be directed through the air passages. A baffle plate is interposed between the rotating fan member and the end bracket. The baffle plate includes a plurality of curvilinear scallops which correspond to the air passages in the end bracket. An effective flow port is created between the scallops of the baffle plate and the tapered ramp surfaces of the end brackets so the size of the effective flow port may be adjusted by merely changing the baffle plate so as to optimize the flow and pressure parameters of the fan for a particular motor size.

    • A shutter assembly for a whole house fan is disclosed which can be flush mounted (i.e., substantially coplanar) with the underside surface of a ceiling so as to close off an opening in the ceiling leading to a whole house fan located thereabove. The shutter assembly comprises a frame somewhat larger than the opening and adapted to be flush mounted to the underside of the ceiling surrounding the opening. The frame is comprised of side and end members. A bracket at the intersection of the frame members securely joins the frame members together. The brackets have temporary attachment tabs for temporarily holding the frame in place with respect to the ceiling sheathing until the frame is securely secured to the ceiling structure. These temporary securing tabs are carried by the brackets and are spaced from the portion of the frame which is flush mounted to the underside of the ceiling so as to hold the ceiling between the frame and the tabs, and thus hold the frame assembly in place. At least some of these tabs are selectively movable between a retracted position in which the frame may be inserted upwardly through the opening, and an extended position in which the tabs extend out over the ceiling thereby to hold the shutter assembly in place with respect to the ceiling.
