摘要： A method and apparatus for prioritizing the use of multifunctional printing system's basic processing resources to allow a high priority job to gain immediate access to a shared resource. The printing system employs a controller with an improved job contention manager (JCM). A plurality of basic resources of the printing system are provided with a queue. One or more job services, at desired times, provides a first signal to the JCM to carry out a sub-job of a given job. The signal for each of the sub-jobs includes information about the respective sub-job and its priority. Responsive to the signal from the job service the JCM adds a corresponding basic resource sub-job to the queues of each basic resource which the added sub-job will require to perform the sub-job. The resources are reassigned by the JCM according to the priority of the added sub-job in the queues. If the added sub-job is the highest priority sub-job in the queues then responsive to the reassignment of the basic resources processing of the sub-jobs is initiated.

摘要： A printing apparatus places multiple images on a sheet 10, at least once on one side, and at least once on an opposite side. After the first printing, the sheet 10 is inverted by an inverter 50 and sent to a duplex path 42. Sensors 20, 40, both in a feed path 22 and the duplex path 42 detect the side edge of the sheet 10 to register the position of the sheet 10 to an image rendering device 14. A user has the option to input preferences at a user interface 26, the preferences including running average and registration options. More specifically, the user has the option to choose a number of sheets 10 used to calculate a running average for registration of both the simplexed and duplexed sheets 10. The user also has the option to select between image to image registration, and image to page registration for duplex printing.

Responsive to the signal, the JCM adds, for a first video capability required by a first sub-job, a corresponding first basic job resource to the queues of each basic resource which the first video capability will require in order to perform the first sub-job. The first basic job resources for the first sub-job are placed in an “Active” state ready for processing, if the first basic job resource is at the top of all of the queues, of all the basic resources, required by the first video capability. Responsive to a second signal, the JCM adds, for a second video capability required by the second sub-job, a corresponding second basic job resource sub-job to the queues of each basic resource which the second video capability will require in order to perform the second sub-job. The printing system employs a controller with an improved job contention manager (JCM). A plurality of basic resources of the printing system are provided with a queue. One or more job services, at desired times, signals the JCM to transfer a multiple banded image sub-job of a given job. The signal for each of the bands of the sub-job includes information about the respective sub-job's priority, band number and total band count for the image. Responsive to the signal from the job service the JCM adds a corresponding basic resource sub-job to the queues of each basic resourse which the sub-job will require to perform the sub-job. When the last band of an image has been transferred it is merged into a single image for further processing.
