    • A pressure equalization apparatus can include separate longitudinal bores which form a continuous flowpath, the flowpath alternating direction between the bores, and the bores being interconnected at opposite ends thereof. A well system can include a well tool with a chamber therein containing an assembly in a dielectric fluid, and a pressure equalization apparatus including a flowpath having one end connected to the chamber, and the other end connected to a source of a another fluid, the flowpath extending in opposite directions between the flowpath ends through multiple separate bores. A method of installing a well tool can include attaching a mandrel to the well tool, then lowering the well tool at least partially into the well suspended from the mandrel, and then securing a pressure equalization apparatus to the mandrel, a flowpath of the apparatus being connected to a chamber of the well tool containing an assembly.

An engagement member (114) radially extends between the mandrel (106) and the sleeve (108) and is operated from a retracted position to an engagement position when the sleeve (108) is moved to the second position relative to the mandrel (106) after equalization. One or more shearable members (120) also radially extend between the mandrel (106) and the sleeve (108) to limit the movement of the sleeve (108) relative to the mandrel (106) in the second direction until a predetermined axial force shears the shearable members (120) allowing the sleeve (108) to move to the third position relative to the mandrel (106).

    • A wellhead plug assembly having one or more plugs for plugging segments of a wellhead bore through which access during completion and production procedures is gained. Each plug has a shortened length that is achieved by positioning connections between several of the components of the plug assembly radially beneath the anchoring and sealing means. By placing the connections radially inward to, and in tandem with, the sealing and or anchoring means, the overall length of a given plug may be shortened to less than eleven inches for plugs to be used in conduits having internal diameters greater than one and one-half inch. Furthermore, the tandem orientation allows plug designs in which a majority of the overall longitudinal length of the plug comprises the collective longitudinal lengths of the seal and anchor means.

    • An improved running or pulling tool which automatically connects to a lock mandrel when the improved tool dogs are inserted into a lock mandrel fishing neck. The dogs are releasably positioned for automatic connection by lower shear members. The tool is releasably positioned in a configuration for downward jarring by upper shear members. When operating to lock a lock mandrel in or unlock a lock mandrel for retrieval from a well conduit, the improved tool may be jarred repeatedly upwardly or downwardly as required. The improved tool may be disconnected and released from the lock mandrel at any time during locking or unlocking operations by jarring upwardly to shear the upper members followed by downward jarring to shear the lower members. The tool may be operated to release by downward jarring if the tool skirt or core contacts a lock mandrel fishing neck.
