    • A design for a wheel loader. The wheel loader has two units connected back to back via a pivot. Each unit has a base unit that is easily disassembled into parts no more than 8 feet wide for transport by using steel plates connected by sleeves, shafts and nuts. A dipper arm arrangement connects the base to a high capacity bucket arrangement of 300 cubic yards. Hydraulic cylinders raise and lower the bucket arrangement and tip the bucket arrangement for dumping. The hydraulic cylinders are operated by hydraulic pumps which are operated by diesel engines. A rotatable cab sits on top of the base to provide a view for an operator.

    • The pitch of the sprocket is adjusted by radially moving the sprocket teeth (2/24) outward: an annular array of evenly spaced ridges and notches are provided on the mounting surfaces (8) of the adaptors (3) or upon mounting surfaces (27) along the periphery on one side of an adaptor disc (25), and matching evenly spaced ridges and notches are provided on each tooth (2/24). The ridged and notched surfaces allow the teeth to be moved outwardly from the center of the adaptor one or more spaces at a time, while securing the teeth in all directions when bolted in place through the round and slotted holes.

    • The pitch of the sprocket is adjusted by radially moving the sprocket teeth outwardly by the corresponding number of cams on a relatively rotatable adjustment plate. The adjustment plate is rotated relative to the adaptor plate that carries the teeth by two alternative apparatus: an annular array of evenly spaced holes on one plate or disc are progressively increasingly offset with respect to an annular array of holes on the other so that a conical pin pushed through two partially aligned holes will relatively rotate the two discs; or grease may be applied through a standard grease nipple to a piston-cylinder assembly inserted within overlapping slots of the two discs. The teeth, after adjustment, may be tightly clamped peripherally and radially by means of one or more wedges between at least two adjacent teeth, which wedges are clamped axially to move radially inward and peripherally wedge against the teeth.

    • A tooth point and adapter assembly has an adapter that is mounted to the bucket of an excavation apparatus and a tooth point that is mounted to the adapter. The tooth point has a cavity having a curved bottom wall and the adapter has a pointed end having a curved bottom wall. Within the tooth point cavity is a protrusion that is adapted to fit within a groove in the top surface of the adapter. Accordingly, the adapter supports the tooth point along its top edge by engagement between the protrusion and groove and the tooth point is supported with full contact between the adapter and tooth point along the curved bottom walls of the adapter and tooth point respectively. The tooth point further includes an indentation in the outer portion of the cavity side wall that matches the profile of the adapter pointed end. Thus, the extent of wear to the tooth point in relation to the adapter can be determined by visual inspection to prevent the tooth point from wearing through and damaging the adapter. Additional wear prevention elements are provided to protect the surfaces of an excavation apparatus bucket that are subject to wear. Shrouds that extend between the tooth points, along the vertical and horizontal corners are included. Also, bucket bottom wear plates and bucket interior liners are provided to fully protect the wear surfaces of the bucket of an excavation apparatus when it is intended that the bucket is to be subjected to extreme abrasion.

    • A joint between two or more surfaces that is self aligned and secured in all directions is provided with a plurality of interlocking ridges and notches. Preferably, the joint may be adjustable in one direction by disengaging the ridges and notches, moving them laterally with respect to each other and thereafter reengaging them. The ridges and notches are parallel to each other on each side of a dividing line and angularly oriented with respect to the ridges on the other side of the dividing line. Adjustment laterally of the dividing line may be provided by recessing the mating surfaces within the vicinity of the dividing line.
