    • Provided are a backlight assembly with improved heat dissipation, and a liquid crystal display (LCD) having such a backlight assembly. The backlight assembly includes: a light guide plate; a light source unit disposed on a side of the light guide plate; an intermediate housing covering an upper surface of the light source unit; and a lower housing coupled to the intermediate housing to accommodate the light guide plate and the light source unit, wherein the lower housing includes: a light source unit-fixing frame to which the light source unit is fixed, the light source unit-fixing frame contacting an inner surface of the intermediate housing; and a body portion disposed under the light guide plate and coupled to the light source unit-fixing frame.

    • A backlight assembly includes a plurality of lamps to generate light, a diffusing plate, a receiving container and a first supporting member. The diffusing plate is placed over the lamps and diffuses the light. The receiving container has a bottom portion and a sidewall portion extending from the bottom portion to provide a receiving space that receives the lamps. The first supporting member is disposed on the bottom portion to support the diffusing plate, and has a first inclined portion and a second inclined portion. The first and second inclined portions can be inclined to each other, or oriented in any other manner that allows them to reduce the amount of shock forces transmitted from the diffusing plate to the bottom portion. Thus, shock resistance and manufacturability of the backlight assembly may be increased and display quality of the display apparatus may be improved.

    • A backlight driver includes an inverter controller, a dimming signal compensator and an inverter. The inverter controller generates a pulse width modulation signal in response to a control signal and outputs a first dimming signal that represents a duty ratio of the pulse width modulation signal and a second dimming signal that represents an amplitude of the pulse width modulation signal. The dimming signal compensator receives the first and second dimming signals, compares the first dimming signal with a predetermined reference duty ratio and compensates the second dimming signal in accordance with the compared result to generate a third dimming signal. The inverter outputs a driving voltage to drive the backlight and varies a voltage level of the driving voltage in response to the first and third dimming signals to control a brightness of the backlight.

    • A first lamp electrode supporter includes a first terminal having a first lamp electrode fixing hole through which a lamp electrode is inserted, and a second terminal connected to an inverter connector.
