    • The invention relates to a process for the preparation of high-purity gamma- and alpha-cyclodextrin starting from a starch substrate of low reducing capacity, partially hydrolysed with alpha-amylase. According to the invention a starch substrate of low reducing capacity partially hydrolysed with alpha-amylase is converted with cyclodextrin glucosyl transferase, after the addition of an aliphatic ketone of the formula R.sub.1 COR.sub.2, in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 stand for a straight or branched chained alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and/or a phenol derivative of the formula R.sub.3 R.sub.4 PheOH, wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together form phenyl group, Phe stand for phenyl group, OH is hydroxyl and/or a benzene derivative of the formula R.sub.5 R.sub.6 Phe, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are hydrogen, alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 together form phenyl group, Phe is phenyl, as a precipitating agent, and if desired, alpha- and/or gamma-cyclodextrin is isolated from the conversion mixture in a crude form, or after further purification, in a pure form.

    • The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a "self-degrading" composition suitable for use in feeding and/or feed-conversing purposes and if desired for the conversion thereof into a self-degrading fodder mixture which comprises pre-degrading the starch being present in cereal fodder and/or maize fodder to an extent that the degradation index of the crop should be from 0.12 to 0.27, and thereafter admixing the so-called "available starch" thus obtained in finely ground form in optional order of succession with .alpha.-amylase and optionally with further additives and--if "self-degrading" fodder mixture is to be prepared--with fodder.The composition of the present invention provides carbohydrates utilizable by the digestive organs of animals. The process of the invention provides products equivalent with the very expensive maltodextrins using cheap and readily available starting materials.
