摘要： A liquid crystal display comprises as liquid crystal panel having a liquid crystal layer disposed between electrode layers, polarizers disposed at both sides of the panel, and a solid birefringent film having the maximum refractive index direction varying with its depth and disposed at at least one side of the liquid crystal panel between the polarizers. The solid birefringent film conpensates the dependence of the polarization characteristic on wave length, thus being capable of obtaining either a monochrome display or a display having an extremely low coloration.

摘要： A method of producing a substrate structure for a large size display panel. The method involves conveying a transparent substrate from a transparent substrate storage means in a conveying path through a vacuum chamber, and while conveying the substrate, forming at least a patterned transparent conductive film on a surface of the substrate by depositing strips of conductive film on the substrate through a pattern containing member extending in a direction orthogonal to the substrate conveying direction and having strip forming openings therein at intervals along the lengths thereof, and storing the transparent substrates with the strips thereon at the end of the conveying path.

摘要： Disclosed is a liquid crystal display capable of ensuring brightness necessary for achieving satisfactory display by increasing ratio of light-emitting time to one frame period. A liquid crystal display is adapted to have a period (non-video signal write period) required for writing non-video signals different from video signals onto all the pixels before a video signal write period. In the non-video signal write period, the non-video signals are written onto the respective pixels, thereby starting response of the liquid crystal before the start of the video signal write period. In the non-video signal write period, a backlight is turned off, and thereby image degradation is prevented even when the non-video signals are written onto the respective pixels.

摘要： Laser beams respectively emitted from a SHG blue laser unit and a red semiconductor laser unit that have photo detectors respectively are turned into parallel lights by a collimator lens and then coupled by a dielectric multi-layer film mirror so as to be propagated on the same optical axis. The dielectric multi-layer film mirror is configured so as to transmit light with a wavelength of 500 nm or shorter and reflect light with a wavelength of 500 nm or longer for both P wave and S wave. The lights that are transmitted and reflected by the dielectric multi-layer film mirror pass through a polarizing hologram and a phase variable wave plate and are focused on an optical disk by an objective lens. In this manner, a simple configuration can realize a compatibility with many types of optical disks and a stable signal detection even when using a polarizing optical detection system.

摘要： A compact and inexpensive LCD is provided by improving a drive method for compensating a crosstalk using a compensating pulse added to a signal voltage so that a drive IC and a periphery of the LCD panel are reduced in size. Only one of positive and negative compensating pulses is added in accordance with a predetermined period. Alternatively, the two compensating pulses are added at different times from each other in one horizontal scanning period. The compensating pulse preferably has a waveform including low frequency components. A width or a height of the compensating pulse varies in accordance with a location of the signal electrode, display pattern or other factors.
