    • Process and apparatus for operating an apparatus to drill holes in the shell of a paper machine cylinder. The apparatus includes a stationary framework supportable on the paper machine, a feed frame that is radially movable along the stationary framework relative to the shell, and a drive unit. A plurality of drilling modules are coupled to the feed frame, which are rotatable via the drive unit, and the drilling modules include a drive shaft, at least two spindle heads, and at least two intermediate shafts arranged between the drive shaft and the at least two spindle heads, in which at least one of the at least two spindle heads in each drilling module is rotatable about a respective intermediate shaft of the drilling modules. The process includes rotating at least one of the at least two spindle heads about a respective intermediate shaft of the drilling module arranged between a drive shaft and the at least one spindle head, such that a mutual distance between spindle shaft centers of the at least two spindle heads in the drilling modules is adjusted.

    • Process and apparatus for drilling holes in a shell of a paper machine cylinder, which is in its operating position. The process includes fixing a drilling apparatus to a cylinder adjacent to the cylinder to be drilled, and substantially eliminating influences of mechanical play due to structures of the adjacent cylinder prior to drilling, which includes coupling a support member to the adjacent cylinder to exert tangential forces on the adjacent cylinder, whereby the mechanical play is substantially eliminated. The apparatus includes a stationary framework supportable on the paper machine, a feed frame that is radially movable along said stationary framework relative to the shell, a drive unit, a plurality of drilling modules coupled to said feed frame, which are rotatable via the drive unit, a fixing device couplable to and adjacent cylinder, a device for eliminating influence of mechanical play due to structures of said adjacent cylinder, and support members adapted to exert tangential forces on said adjacent cylinder.

    • A device for the machining of the shell surfaces of the drying cylinders of a paper machine and particularly for the grinding thereof, which device comprises a carriage (1) which is displaceable in the direction of the length of the drying cylinders and to which a grinder is attached. In order that the grinding could be carried out easily and rapidly and with only a short downtime of the paper machine, the carriage of the device is formed by a frame carriage (1) which is provided with supporting elements (13) for the support thereof both against a drying cylinder (9) of the paper machine and against a second cylinder (10) of the paper machine so that it is positioned between said cylinders (9, 10) when the device is in operation. There are preferably eight supporting elements (13, 14) provided, four of which are arranged to be positioned against the drying cylinder (9) to be ground and the other four against the second cylinder (10). The supporting elements (13, 14) are provided with rotating balls, roller wheels or slide surfaces so that the cylinders (9, 10) of the paper machine are rotatable during the grinding process.
