    • A survivor memory device in a Viterbi decoder determines a final survivor path using a trellis diagram and decision vectors, and outputs decoded data corresponding to the determined survivor path. The survivor memory device includes a path existence information generator for receiving a plurality of decision vectors, and for generating first branch path existence information representing whether a branch path exists between each state and the corresponding next states in the trellis diagram. A plurality of units are serially connected with respect to the outputs of the path existence information generator. Each unit comprises a path existence information store for receiving and storing the first branch path existence information, a path removal signal generator for generating corresponding path removal signals when the first branch path existence information corresponding to each current state represents that corresponding branch paths do not exist between each current state and the corresponding next states, and a path existence information updator for receiving the first branch path existence information stored in the path existence information store and the path removal signals generated by the path removal signal generator, and for updating values of second branch path existence information corresponding to each current state to represent that corresponding branch paths do not exist between each current state and the corresponding previous states.

    • A decoding apparatus for decoding input data using a Viterbi algorithm includes a first unit for repetitively performing determination of a survivor path corresponding to each state at each time unit based on the input data and a Trellis diagram, and for generating decision vectors and path number information whenever a branch path is determined. A second unit is provided for storing the decision vectors generated in the first unit and for outputting path information representing each survivor path determined by the stored decision vectors. A third unit stores the path number information output from the first unit and the path information output from the second unit, and deletes the branch path information corresponding to the path number information of the first unit from the stored path information, while retracing the previous states during the time when the branch path to be deleted does not overlap the other survivor path having a branch path connected to the next state. The third unit generates decoded data corresponding to input data based on the finally remaining survivor path.

    • An apparatus, method, and system for providing a broadcasting service in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) system with a Single Frequency Network (SFN). Networks of shadow and non-shadow regions can be distinguished in the digital broadcasting system. A conditional access system can be used in the shadow region. A terminal can select a service network. A broadcasting providing server encrypts broadcasting service data, generates private and public keys into which predetermined encryption keys are divided to decrypt the encrypted broadcasting service data, sets at least one broadcasting transmitter for transmitting the private key and/or at least one broadcasting transmitter for transmitting the public key, and provides the encryption keys along with the encrypted broadcasting service data. Broadcasting transmitters transmit the encrypted broadcasting service data received from the broadcasting providing server and the private key using the SFN. At least one of the broadcasting transmitters further transmits the public key.
