    • A face recognition method and apparatus. The face recognition apparatus includes a Gabor filter unit which obtains a plurality of response values by applying a plurality of Gabor filters having different properties to a plurality of fiducial points extracted from an input face image, a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) unit which obtains first LDA results by performing LDA on each of a plurality of response value groups into which the response values of the plurality of response values are classified, a similarity calculation unit which calculates similarities between the first LDA results and second LDA results obtained by performing LDA on a face image other than the input face image, and a determination unit which classifies the input face image according to the similarities.

    • An illumination-invariant object tracking method and an image editing system using the same are provided. The illumination-invariant object tracking method involves: designating an initial position of an object of interest to be tracked in an image; constructing a probability map for object tracking in consideration of a color ratio of adjacent pixels in the image; and performing Kalman filtering based on the initial position of the object and the probability map. The image editing system based on the illumination-invariant object tracking method includes: a data input unit which receives an image to be edited; an object tracking unit which tracks a target object in consideration of a color ratio of adjacent pixels in the image; an image editing unit which edits and outputs an edited image in a predetermined region of the image, in response to information on the position, size, and boundary of the tracked target object.

    • A face detection and tracking system for detecting and tracking a plurality of faces in real time from an input image comprises: a background removing unit which extracts an area having a motion by removing a background image from the input image; a candidate area extracting unit which extracts a candidate area in which a face can be located in the area having a motion by using a skin color probability map generated from a face skin color model and a global probability map a face area determination unit which extracts (ICA) features from a candidate area and determines whether the candidate area is a face area by using a trained SVM classifier; and a face area tracking unit which tracks the face area according to a directional kernel indicating a probability that a face is located in a next frame based on the skin color probability map.
