    • A digital video processing method and an apparatus thereof are provided. The method for processing digital images received in the form of compressed video streams comprising the step of determining a region intensity histogram (RIH) based on information on motion compensation of inter frames. The RIH information is obtained based on the motion compensation values of inter frames, and the RIH information is a good indicator of motion information of a video scene. Also, since the RIH information is quite a good indicator of intensity of the video scene, video streams having similar intensities can be effectively searched by searching for similar video scenes based on the RIH information obtained by the digital video processing method.

    • A digital image texture analyzing method including the steps of (a) obtaining the mean (μ0) and variance (σ0) of the pixel values of an original image, and (b) obtaining m×n filtered images by filtering the original image using predetermined filters, each having a unique combination of one of m scales and one of n orientations, where m and n are predetermined positive integers, (c) calculating the means (μ11, μ21, . . . , μmn) and variances (σ11, σ21, . . . , σmn) of the respective filtered images, and (d) obtaining a texture descriptor having the mean (μ0) and variance (σ0) of the pixel values of the original image obtained in the step (a), and the means (μ11, μ21, . . . , μmn) and variances (σ11, σ21, . . . , σmn) of the respective filtered images obtained in the step (c), as texture features. The texture analyzing method allows image textures to be more accurately analyzed and compared. Also, according to the digital image texture analyzing method, when an image is only rotated, enlarged or reduced relative to another image, the similarity of the textures of two images are analyzed, that is, accurate analysis can be performed.

    • A digital image segmentation method and device is provided. The method includes the steps of grouping an image stream into a plurality of continuous frame groups, setting one arbitrary frame as an I frame and the others as P frames in each group, segmenting the I frame into a plurality of regions, and segmenting the P frames by obtaining motion vectors, using motion prediction, of the segmented I frame regions, respectively, with respect to each of the P frames, by moving the segmented I frame regions by the respective motion vectors, and by setting the moved I frame regions as segmented P frame regions. Accordingly, the segmentation of the I frame is applied to the P frame segmentation, and a conventional segmentation process consuming excessive time with respect to all frames does not need to be performed. Thus, rapid segmentation can be performed.
