    • The present invention relates to a method for forming post spacers in a liquid crystal display, which enables cell gap to be uniform by means of a half-tone mask. The method comprises the steps of: defining a active region and a dummy region in a substrate; forming a black matrix on the substrate at the outside of the active region; selectively forming a RGB resin film on the active region while selectively forming a RGB resin film on the dummy region; forming a protective film on the resulting structure; forming a photosensitive resin film on the protective film; forming a half-tone mask pattern on the photosensitive resin film; and selectively etching the photosensitive resin film using the half-tone mask pattern so as to form the post spacers having a different height.

    • A liquid crystal display device with spacers integrally formed at a plastic substrate. The liquid crystal display device comprises: upper and lower substrates joined with liquid crystals interposed there-between, at least one substrate of which is made of plastic; a driving electrode for the liquid crystals formed at the lower substrate; polarizers attached at respective rear surfaces of the upper and lower substrates; and spacers interposed between the upper and lower substrates to maintain cell gaps, wherein the spacers are integrally formed at the substrate, and concurrently act as posts. Also, spacers can be integrally formed at either one of the lower plastic substrate and the upper plastic substrate, or the spacers can be integrally formed at both the lower plastic substrate and the upper plastic substrate, and the spacers have a height of “cell gap±a”, wherein the cell gap is 0.2 to 10 &mgr;m and “a” is not more than 1 &mgr;m.

    • A liquid crystal display device with an IPS mode having wide view angle characteristic and capable of improving response time and transmittance, is disclosed. A liquid crystal display device with an in-plane switching mode includes a first substrate having first and second electrodes formed thereon. A second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate with a selected distance. On a surface of the second substrate are also formed third and fourth electrodes. When a voltage is applied to the respective electrodes, a first electric field which is parallel to the planes of the substrates is generated between the first electrode and the second electrode, and a second electric field which is parallel to the planes of the substrates and is orthogonal to the first electric field is generated between the third electrode and the fourth electrode. A polarizer is arranged on the outside of the first substrate and a analyzer is arranged on the outside of the second substrate. A first homogeneous alignment film is applied to the first substrate on which the first and second electrodes are formed. A second homogeneous alignment film is also applied to the second substrate on which the third and fourth electrodes are formed. A liquid crystal layer having liquid crystal molecules is interposed between the both substrates, wherein the liquid crystal molecules are arranged in a homogeneous state in an absence of the electric field and are twisted in a presence of the electric field.

    • The present invention is directed to provide a liquid crystal display having an improved picture quality, high transmittance and high aperture ratio. The liquid crystal display comprises: an upper and a lower substrate opposed each other to be spaced apart; a liquid crystal layer interposed between inner surfaces of the upper and lower substrates, the liquid crystal layer including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a gate bus line and a data bus line formed in the lower substrate in a matrix configuration and defining sub-pixel regions; a counter electrode formed on each sub-pixel region of the lower substrate; a pixel electrode formed on each sub-pixel region of the lower substrate, wherein the counter electrode and the pixel electrode form an electric field; a thin film transistor formed at an intersection of the gate bus line and the data bus line, and switching a signal transmitted from the data bus line into the pixel electrode when the gate bus line is selected; and a homogeneous alignment layer formed on inner surfaces of the upper and lower substrates, wherein a first electric field is formed between the counter and pixel electrodes of a selected sub-pixel among the sub-pixel regions, and the electric field is formed as a diagonal line with respect to the gate bus line and the data bus line, wherein a second electric field is formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode of another sub-pixel adjacent to said selected sub-pixel, and the second electric field is formed as a diagonal line to make a symmetry with the first electric field.
