    • A system and method for analyzing and classifying digital images as color, black-and-white, black-and-white with spot color, monochromatic, or monochromatic with spot color is provided. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a digital image is received and selected pixel values thereof are transformed from RGB color component values to a lightness component value and two color difference component values. The selected pixels are analyzed with respect to neutrality based upon the two color difference values and are grouped according to lightness value. The sample population distributions of each of the two color difference values are statistically analyzed for each group of pixels, and an image classification is determined by examination of the resulting statistics and derivatives thereof.

    • A system and method for unique virtual dynamically-capable (UVDC) addressing relating to mail and parcel delivery and forwarding. The UVDC addressing system comprises at least one data collection processing and storage Host that creates a unique virtual dynamically-capable (UVDC) address for a subscriber be it an individual, business or other entity, that contains a UVDC address code, and an associated informational data set and a mechanism for conveying this data when the Host is queried by a mail/parcel processing facility. The informational data set corresponding to the UVDC address code is changeable to adapt to the changing needs and desires of the subscriber. By virtue of their UDVC address, the subscriber can have a mail/parcel delivered to any facility by any means and have them sent to any final delivery point by any means with the final delivery point being changeable at any time while mail/parcel remains within the UVDCA system. The UVDC addressing system provides the only addressing system that allows a seamless interface between all elements of current, conventional mail and parcel delivery infrastructure, such as between the U.S. Postal System and other non-postal parcel carriers, like United Parcel Services and Federal Express. Now free from problems of the conventional legacy address model of one address per person per physical location or per delivery point of mail and parcels, people and other entities can get mail and parcels delivered wherever they want, whenever they want, no matter the delivery method, no matter what. All they need is a UVDC Address and the UVDC addressing system will take care of the rest.

    • A technique for improving the tone and color reproduction of print and slide images which are photographed onto color negative film, scanned by a Photo CD negative scanner and transferred onto Photo CD discs is disclosed. The technique incorporates a calibration method for (1) producing color negatives (or slides) using normal scanner calibration targets, (2) producing controlled prints from the negatives, (3) re-photographing the prints (or slides) onto a second color negative film, and (4) performing the normal scanner calibration using this second "cascaded" film. The calibration step not only "compensates for" the second color negative film (as is the case when calibrating for "normal" film exposed from the original scenes) but also "compensates for" the first negative film "print through" (or slide) characteristics. This means that the image data recorded on the Photo CD disc will more closely resemble the data which would be produced if the original scene had been photographed on color negative film and scanned directly.

    • The present invention is designed to operate with a digital imaging device which reproduces in hardcopy an original color image. In order to make high quality reproductions, that is reproductions which correspond in finished color to the color of the original image, the method of the present invention operates upon the original color densities with a color correction module that has as its input the desired red, green, and blue densities, and which outputs the modified red, green, and blue densities which can be considered to be channel-independent aim control signals for the imaging device. In the event that external conditions change which prevent the desired red, green, and blue densities from being achieved when the color correction module is utilized, a neutral adjustment module is activated which takes as its inputs the red, green, and blue aim control signals from the color correction module and outputs adjusted red, green, and blue signals which are directed to the imaging device. The derivation of the parameters for the neutral adjustment module is accomplished by the production of a hardcopy image of neutral color patches. The densities of the patches are measured and provided to the color correction module to determine the correct relationships between red, green, and blue signals output from the color correction module and the resulting densities.
