    • A video disk player which can read two types of video disk. In the conventional video disk, analog audio channels are recorded in a frequency band between a digital audio channel and a video channel of a narrower bandwidth. In an advanced video disk, there is a digital audio channel and the video channel is extended downward to become adjacent to the digital audio channel. The disk player adjusts the lower frequency cut-off of a video band-pass filter in accordance with a detection of the type of disk, possibly by a special recorded code or by the detection of the analog audio carriers. Preferably, the video band-pass filter comprises a high-pass filter with an adjustable cut-off and a low-pass filter and the frequency-demodulator is positioned between these two filters.

    • An optical information recording apparatus for reading information recorded on an optically recorded disk in which perpendicularity is maintained between the recording plane of the disk and the optical axis of a reading light beam independently of the operation of a focus servo system. To detect the amount of offset in perpendicularity between the optical axis of the reading light beam and the recording surface, a light-emitting element and a light-detecting element are provided. In accordance with the invention, the path between the light-emitting element and the light-detecting element does not pass through a lens which focuses the reading beam onto the plane of the recording medium.

    • A device for eliminating time base variations in a video disc player in which a gate pulse controlled by the latest time base information is generated for preventing faulty operation during the absence of burst signals. The gate pulse is generated after a predetermined time which is proportional to a delay control signal and which starts from a leading edge of each of the horizontal synchronizing signals. A time base information pulse is generated having a width extending from the leading edge of the gate pulse to the leading edge of the specific color burst signal appearing after the leading edge of the gate pulse when color burst signals are present and having the same width as the gate pulse when the color burst signals are absent. The delay control signal and the timing pulse are generated in turn in response to a sampling pulse and the time base information pulse when the color burst signals are present and in response only to the time base information pulse when the color burst signals are absent. The sampling pulse is produced in response to the timing pulse when the color burst signals are absent and an error signal is generated in response to a reference horizontal synchronizing pulse and the sampling pulse. A servo device operates in response to the error signal to compensate for time base variations.

    • A data reproducing device with which, in reproducing a digitized audio signal, the speed of movement of a data detecting point of a pickup relative to the recording medium is controlled with high accuracy.     • A method for recording and reproducing multiplex information in which two subcarriers of the same frequency are modulated by two respective subchannel signals. The modulated signals are added to two main channel signals to produce two corresponding sum signals. Two main carriers of different frequencies are then modulated with the two sum signals.
