    • A process for pulverizing substances which are sensitive to oxidation, in particular oily substances, by dispersing oil-soluble substances, e.g. vitamins, carotinoids, pharmaceutically active compounds or aromas, in an aqueous solution of a film-forming colloid, which constitutes the continuous phase of the dispersion, with the addition of one or more substances from the group comprising the mono-, di- and polysaccharides, atomizing the dispersion, in a spray tower, in the presence of a spraying assistant and collecting the resulting particles in a fluidized bed, wherein, as the spraying auxiliary, a hydrophobic silica or a metal salt of a higher fatty acid is introduced above the fluidized bed and distributed uniformly in the spraying space, at a temperature at which the colloid of the atomized particles has not yet solidified, and the assistant-laden particles, colloid material of which essentially has not yet gelatinized, is collected in a fluidized bed, and dried therein in a conventional manner.

    • A crop-feed arrangement for a hay baler displaced along a swath is provided with a pickup drum whose tines elevate the crop material from the ground and dispose it in a trough extending transversely of the direction of advance of the baler. An auxiliary feed device is provided above the pickup drum and is angularly oscillatable, while being provided with independently elastically suspended pushers, for feeding the crop material into the trough in which a transverse-feed mechanism, e.g. a fork describing a kidney-shaped pattern of motion advances the crop material into the lateral opening of the press channel. The ram compacts the crop material in this channel which extends in the travel direction, whereupon the bale is tied and the finished bale ejected at the rearward end of the channel.

    • A chopper has a housing centered on an axis and having a radially open input and a radially open output spaced angularly therefrom as well as a pair of axially oppositely open intakes, and a cutter drum rotatable in the housing about the axis and having a pair of end plates transverse of the axis and having axially oppositely directed faces confronting the respective intakes and a plurality of blades secured to and between the end plates and having cutting edges defining on rotation of the drum an orbit centered on the axis. Respective pluralities of vanes at the end plates can be secured either to the respective end plates in in-service positions extending generally radially thereon so that rotation of the drum moves the vanes to draw air in the axial intakes and expel it through the radial output or in an out-of-service position in which they do not move appreciable air. The vanes can be secured in the out-of-service position also to the respective end plates but extending generally only angularly. In particular the vanes form a radially closed cylindrical annulus in the out-of-service position. This annulus generally blocks flow from the intake to the output in the out-of-service position. The vanes can also be secured in the out-of service position so as not to rotate with the drum.
