    • A power unit for a vehicle includes a clutch actuator mounted to a clutch cover covering first and second hydraulic clutches provided between a crankshaft and first and second main shafts of a transmission. A first actuator body is mounted to the clutch cover at such a position that at least part of the first actuator body overlaps with the first and second hydraulic clutches when viewed from the direction along the axis of the first and second main shafts. A first set of valves, out of a plurality of valves constituting part of the clutch actuator, are disposed in the first actuator body, with their axes of operation set along a plane intersecting the axis of the first and second main shafts. A second set of valves are disposed in a second actuator body mounted to the clutch cover so as to overlap with the first actuator body.

    • A shift position detecting device that determines a shift position based on a detection logic formed of a combination of turning on or off of a plurality of switches that are fixedly arranged at least one by one at positions corresponding to a plurality of detecting object portion rows mounted on a shift drum. An accurate shift position can be detected even if there is an irregularity in switching timings of switching modes of the plurality of switches. A shift position detecting member establishes the shift position as a new shift position and outputs shift position information, while when the detection logic after the transition is a detection logic other than the detection logic corresponding to the changeable shift position, sets the new shift position not yet established and outputs information corresponding to non-establishment of the shift position.

In the transmission system for a vehicle in which a shift clutch is actuated interlockedly with a shift spindle rotationally driven by a shift motor, a target clutch torque for the shift clutch is calculated based on an estimated engine torque derived from an estimated engine torque map which prescribes the relation between engine rotational speed, throttle angle, and estimated engine torque, and a target shift spindle angle is calculated based on a value derived from a target shift spindle angle map which prescribes the relation between the target clutch torque and the target shift spindle angle. A control unit controls the shift motor based on the target shift spindle angle calculated by a target shift spindle angle calculator, at the time of effecting a gear shift of a transmission.
