    • The present invention provides a method for managing mobile handset portability within a telematics equipped mobile vehicle. The method includes assigning a primary telematics unit identifier to a user account, assigning the primary telematics unit identifier to a mobile handset, associating the mobile handset with any one of a plurality of telematics units operating within the mobile vehicle communication system, and operating the associated telematics unit. The step of associating the mobile handset may include coupling the mobile handset to the telematics unit, communicating the assigned telematics unit identifier of the mobile handset to a service provider, and downloading user preferences from the service provider wherein the user preferences are based on the user account associated with the communicated telematics unit identifier. The step of downloading the user preferences may include determining the user preferences at the service provider and receiving the user preferences from the service provider.

    • The present invention provides a method for managing registration requests of a telematics unit within a telematics equipped mobile vehicle. The method includes receiving a restricted use command from a service provider, initiating a restricted use mode based on the received restricted use command, and modulating a transmission rate of at least one registration request based on the restricted use mode. The restricted use command may include a contact increment. The contact increment may include contact rate information. The contact increment may include contact initiation information. The restricted use mode may operate the telematics unit in a low-power configuration. The step of modulating the transmission rate of the registration request may include identifying a contact increment within the received restricted use command, determining contact information within the contact increment, and implementing the modulated transmission rate based on the determined contact information.

    • The present invention provides a method of operating a telematics enabled mobile vehicle communication system. The method includes receiving vehicle diagnostic information at a relational database and analyzing the received vehicle diagnostic information. The method further includes identifying data correlations of interest identifying common elements associated with one or more specific situations based on the analyzed vehicle diagnostic information and identifying at least one client related to the data correlations. The method may further include distributing the vehicle diagnostic information associated with the identified data correlations and the identified clients. The step of identifying data correlations of interest based on the analyzed vehicle diagnostic information may include receiving diagnostic criteria, applying the diagnostic criteria to the analyzed vehicle diagnostic information, and determining whether one or more diagnostic information groups of the analyzed vehicle diagnostic information correlate to the diagnostic criteria.

    • A demonstration method and module for demonstrating various features of a vehicle navigation system without activating the system at a back-end facility, such as a remote call center. The demonstration module comes with a variety of pre-established navigation demonstrations, each of which is designed for a particular geographic area. The demonstration module obtains a vehicle position reading from the vehicle navigation system, and then utilizes this reading to select the most appropriate demonstration experience for that area. The selected navigation demonstration is then played through one or more output devices in the vehicle, such as speakers and a graphical display. This enables a prospective customer to experience a local or familiar navigation demonstration, without taking the steps and incurring the expenses associated with activating the vehicle navigation system at the call center.
