    • A method and a system for driving an electro-luminescence display panel of a matrix type has a compensation pulse applied to all the cells prior to or in the front of a pedestal pulse on every frame cycle. The level of the compensation pulse is higher than the pedestal pulse but low enough not to light the cells by itself. The duration of the compensation pulse is long enough to saturate charge polarization in the EL material of the cell, as a dielectric, at the applied voltage. Therefore, brightness of the lighted cell is kept constant regardless of the number of lighted cells on the same data electrode. Each of two power-receiving terminals of push-pull scan drivers is connected to a pulse generator respectively. One of the two power-receiving terminals may be floated from the pulse generator while data pulse is applied to the data electrodes. This configuration prevents damage of the CMOS drivers by latch-up caused therein, as well as reducing power consumption produced by charging current of the data pulses into non-lighted cells.

    • An improved row selecting and driving system for a self-shift type gas discharge panel for providing a multi-row display in a plurality of shift rows. The shift row is composed of at least one shift channel having a regular arrangement of a plurality of discharge cells, each said discharge cell comprising opposing electrode groups of 2.times.2 or more phases. A shift voltage is sequentially applied to the electrode groups of a selected shift row for shifting discharge spots in that row in one direction. At the same time, a shift voltage having a different sequence of voltages from that for said selected shift row is applied to the electrode group of the non-selected shifting rows, in a sway shift operation performed within a predetermined spatial period of the cell arrangement to hold said discharge spot in said cell arrangement period. The driving system can equalize the operation margin in all of the selected and non-selected shift rows, and as a result, display quality can be improved.

    • A coordinate detecting apparatus for determining the coordinate data of a point on a plane by indicating the point with a touch of a fingertip or other load to the point. The apparatus comprises a transparent resistive film forming the plane (touch panel) and a buffer circuit operating as a voltage follower circuit having substantially infinate input impedance. The buffer amplifier is operatively connected between each selected pair of facing ends of a substantially rectangular region of the resistive film, and equalizes the potentials at the ends. The change of the impedance between one of the ends and the ground is detected in accordance with the touch of the fingertip to the touch panel and is used as an original coordinate data. Further modifications concerning the avoidance of degradation in the detection quality due to fluctuations of the impedance provided by the touch of a fingertip, for example, and the methods to perform 2-dimensional coordinate detection are described.
