    • The invention provides a connector with a housing having a simple configuration. After an L-shaped side retainer 30 has been fitted in a temporary stopping position within an opening groove 22 of an inner housing 20, this inner housing 20 is inserted from an anterior direction into a fitting channel 12 of an outer housing 10. A locking protrusion 13 provided in the fitting channel 12 engages a locking member 26 of the inner housing 20, and the inner housing 20 is thereby attached. When the side retainer 30 is to be moved from the temporary stopping position to a main stopping position in which male terminal fittings 1 can be retained, a jig or the like is inserted into the fitting channel 12 to move an operating member 35 formed on an anterior edge of the side retainer 30.

    • A retainer is provided to increase a locking force of the retainer and to ensure an accurate detection of insufficient insertion. The retainer 30 is provided with locking struts 32 which can enter behind secondary locking portions 26 of terminals 20 in their proper insertion positions. A pair of projections 33 further project from the leading end of each locking strut 32. The two projections 33 are spaced such that a contact portion 21 of the terminal 20 can be held therebetween. If the retainer 30 is pushed to its full lock position after the terminals 20 are inserted, the locking struts 32 enter behind the secondary locking portions 26 while the projections 33 are holding the contact portions 21 therebetween. An engaging area of the retainer 30 with the terminals 20 is increased by providing the projections 33 and, accordingly, a locking force is increased. If the terminals 20 are left insufficiently inserted, the projections 33 at the leading ends of the locking struts 32 come into contact with the side surfaces of covers 22, thereby preventing any further entry of the retainer 30. Since a bulging distance of the retainer 30 is increased by providing the projections 33, the insufficient insertion of the terminals 20 can easily and accurately be detected.

    • A connector includes a housing for receiving electrical terminals and a retainer for retaining the terminals in the housing. The retainer has a plate-shaped body and a pair of reinforcing wall portions that slidingly contact an outer surface of the housing. The reinforcing wall portions are at right and left ends of the plate-shaped body, respectively. When the retainer is placed at a temporary position on the housing and a pressing force is applied to only the one end of the plate-shaped body, only the pressed side of the reinforcing wall portion moves to a locking position. As a result, the plate-shaped body inclines with respect to the upper surface of the housing. At this time, the plate-shaped body and the reinforcing wall portion elastically stretch. This stretch generates an elastic restoring force that urges the plate-shaped body to become parallel with the upper surface of the housing. As a result, the other side of the reinforcing wall portion moves downward, and the retainer reaches the locking position on both sides.

    • A connector member for use in connecting electrical wiring is received by another connector part and has a housing body for receiving metal wiring terminals. In a recess of the housing having opposed side walls, there is a resilient locking arm having a head portion. The locking arm locks with another connector part and there are gaps formed between the head portion and the side walls. A terminal retainer is mounted on the housing for locking the metal terminals in place. To prevent a wire or other foreign body being trapped in the gaps between the arm and the side walls, the terminal retainer has a pair of gap blocking portions which, in its locked position, lie on opposite sides of the head portion of the locking arm so as to partially block these gaps.
