    • An image processing method and apparatus for detecting at least one region designated by at least one line of at least one closed loop on an original, wherein the original is scanned and an image formation is generated; the image information is processed for generating image data and region data which represent said at least one designated region; and the region data is processed for each scanning line. The processing of the region data comprises detecting a right end margin and a left end margin of the designated region for generating a marginal signal for the present scanning line corresponding to an interval from the right end margin to the left end margin; detecting a portion of the marginal signal continuous to a region signal for a preceding scanning line to generate a provisional region signal; detecting a portion of the provisional region signal which indicates an outside of the designated region for the present scanning line for generating an outside region signal for the present scanning line; detecting a region-designating signal for the present scanning line which is not continuous to the region signal for the preceding scanning line to generate a new region-designating signal for the present scanning line; and adding the new region-designating signal to, and for subtracting the outside region signal from, the provisional region signal to generate a region signal for the present scanning line.

    • A color image processing technique using optics to separate an original color image into a plurality of colors. These colors are photoelectrically converted to electric signals. Color information signals are then generated from these electric signals. The color information signals are coded by comparing them with a threshold value. An individualized set of such threshold values is provided for each of the plurality of colors. In one embodiment, a luminance signal is provided from the color information signals. The luminance signal is utilized in response to a monochrome code selection signal to enable the original color image to be reproduced as a monochrome image. Color gamut information and color density information of the color gamut can be obtained from the color information signals during a first scan of a document bearing the color image.

    • In an image processing apparatus capable of enlarging/reducing operation according to the invention, there are provided an input buffer for storing an image data, an enlargement/reduction circuit for performing the enlargement/reduction processing of the image data outputted from the input buffer, an output buffer for storing the enlarged/reduced image data, and a timing circuit for controlling processing timing for the image data through the input buffer, the enlargement/reduction circuit and the output buffer. The timing circuit respectively controls the data read-out timing from the input buffer and the data write-in timing into the output buffer in accordance with the designated enlargement/reduction ratio by regulating the frequency of clock pulse.
