    • A briquette for use as steelmaking material and a method of manufacturing the same, capable of effective reusing of the shot waste. After dropping a solidification assistant into shot waste consisting of powder metal containing iron powder and shot beads, the shot waste is compression molded. The compression molded shot waste is dried. Alternatively, the shot waste is admixed with cutting sludge containing ferrous-metal cutting residue particles and a cutting fluid containing oil and water, thereby forming cotton-like agglomerations. The cotton-like agglomerations are compression molded, thereby forming a brittle compact, which has the fibrous cutting sludge roughly sheared and which is removed of excessive water and oil. The brittle compact is impregnated with the solidification assistant, solidified and dried.

    • With the object of effective utilization of a fine powder generated during comminution of a crude material for iron manufacture, a briquette is provided which comprises a porous brittle molded body with a bulk specific gravity of 1.5 or more which is obtained by compression molding a molding composition comprising a fine powder generated during comminution of a crude material for iron manufacture and a reinforcing portion for reinforcing the brittle molded body. Further, with the object of effective reuse of used alumina grinding stones, a briquette is provided which comprises a porous brittle molded body obtained by compression molding a molding composition comprising a comminuted powder of a used alumina grinding stone and a cotton-like aggregate comprising a grinding powder of a ferrous metal and a grinding liquid, and a reinforcing portion for reinforcing the brittle molded body.

    • A compression machine is provided which is adapted to improve the operation efficiency of the machine for achieving the reduction of plant and equipment costs per compact-product weight. A compression machine includes: a first cylinder body 1 constituting a compaction chamber for compacting a subject material S and is formed with an opening through which the subject material S is supplied; a pusher shaft 10 slidably disposed in the first cylinder body 1 and serving to compress and solidify the subject material S; driving means 40 for driving the pusher shaft 10; a second cylinder body 20 disposed in coaxial and tandem relation with the first cylinder body 1; and a pressure receiving member disposed in the second cylinder body 20 and having a pressure receiving surface opposing a distal end surface of the pusher shaft 10, the first cylinder body and the second cylinder body being allowed to move relative to each other in an axial direction.
