    • In a vehicular visual assistance system, an image picked up by an image pickup device is processed by an image processing device, and displayed on a display monitor. The image pickup device is mounted on a lower part of a door mirror housing, and is capable of picking up an image of a region that is continuous in the fore-and-aft direction. The imaged region includes part of a front region directly viewed by a vehicle driver, and part of a rear region indirectly viewed by the vehicle driver via a door mirror. The image processing device displays, on the display monitor, an imaged region for which at least front and rear boundaries thereof of the viewed regions overlap. Thus, it is possible to avoid a blind spot from occurring between the direct and indirect views and the image based on the picked up image, thereby improving visibility.

    • A rearview correcting/controlling system for a vehicle includes: a rearview obtaining device for providing a rearview to an occupant on a driver's seat; a drive device for driving the rearview obtaining device to change a view angle of the rearview provided by the rearview obtaining device; and a control device for controlling the operation of the drive device. The control device controls the operation of the drive device to vertically change the view angle of the rearview obtaining device based on a value detected by a forward/rearward inclination detecting device. Thus, even when the forward/rearward inclination of the vehicle occurs, a rearview at an optimal view angle can be obtained.

    • In a vehicular visual assistance system, an image picked up by an image pickup device capable of picking up an image of a fore-and-aft region sideward of a vehicle is processed by an image processing device, and displayed on a display monitor. The image pickup device is mounted on a lower part of a door mirror housing, and is capable of picking up an image of a region that is continuous in the fore-and-aft direction while simultaneously including part of a front region directly viewed by a vehicle driver on a driver's seat and part of a rear region indirectly viewed by the vehicle driver via a door mirror. The image processing device displays, on the display monitor, a region for which at least front and rear boundaries thereof overlap the rear edge of the directly viewed region and the front edge of the indirectly viewed region, respectively. Thus, it is possible to avoid a blind spot from occurring between the direct and indirect views and the image based on the picked up image, thus giving an excellent visibility.

    • A vehicle speed control system includes a road shape recognition unit which recognizes a road shape, a target speed setting unit which sets a target speed according to the road shape, a speed control unit which controls the host vehicle's speed according to the target speed, a parameter detecting unit which detects at least one of parameters representing the driver's steering rotation, a yaw rate of the host vehicle, and a lateral acceleration of the host vehicle, and a first acceleration determining unit which, after the speed control unit has decelerated, determines whether or not to accelerate the host vehicle according to reference parameters based on a road shape and the host vehicle's speed and parameters detected by the parameter detecting unit, wherein if the first acceleration determining unit has determined to accelerate, the target speed setting unit sets a target speed of the host vehicle according to a predetermined acceleration.
