摘要： According to one embodiment, a foreign language service assisting apparatus is provided with first and second acquisition units, a translation unit, a presentation unit and an accepting unit. The first acquisition unit acquires first information on a first article. The second acquisition unit acquires second information on second articles associated with the first article, and subsequent speech candidates expected to be spoken, based on the first information. The translation unit translates the first information, the second information, and the candidates. The presentation unit presents translation result. The accepting unit accepts selection associated with the first or second articles or the candidate.

An additional information storage unit stores a plurality of additional information each differently corresponding to each of the contents. A selection history storage unit stores a history of selection from the contents and the additional information by a user in the past. A first estimation unit estimates a first preference information representing a tendency of the user's preference for the contents, based on the history. The extraction unit is configured to extract, as technical terms, morpheme strings, which are not defined in a general concept dictionary, from a document set. The selection unit is configured to evaluate relevancies between each of basic term candidates and the technical terms, and to preferentially select basic term candidates having high relevancies as basic terms. The clustering unit is configured to calculate weighted sums of statistical degrees of correlation between the basic terms based on the document set, to calculate conceptual degrees of correlation between the basic terms based on the general concept dictionary, and to cluster the basic terms based on the weighted sums.
