    • The present invention relates to a continuous process for the production of a superabsorbent polymer comprising providing an acidic liquid aqueous monomer mixture containing dissolved oxygen; continuously feeding the aqueous monomer mixture to a reactor; introducing a source of carbonate or hydrogen carbonate into the aqueous monomer mixture prior to entry into the reactor thereby forming a gas phase comprising carbon dioxide and at least a part of the dissolved oxygen, the gas phase being dispersed in the liquid phase; subjecting the gas/liquid mixture to at least partial phase separation immediately prior to or after entry into the reactor and at least partially removing the separated gaseous phase; subjecting the liquid phase in the reactor to free-radical polymerization to obtain the superabsorbent polymer, and continuously removing the superabsorbent polymer from the reactor.

    • The present invention relates to a process for producing postcrosslinked water-absorbing polymeric formations, comprising the steps of contacting water-absorbing polymeric formations P1 obtained by polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated acid-functional monomers or salts thereof in the presence of a crosslinker with a fluid F1 comprising a postcrosslinker, heating the water-absorbing polymeric formations in contact with the fluid F1 to a temperature in a range from 40 to 300° C. to obtain postcrosslinked water-absorbing polymeric formations P2, the water-absorbing polymeric formations P1 having a thermal stability, as determined in accordance with the test method described herein, of less than 3.0%. The invention also relates to water-absorbing polymeric formations, to the water-absorbing polymeric formations obtainable by this process, to water-absorbing polymeric formations based on crosslinked carboxyl-bearing monomers, to a composite comprising water-absorbing polymeric formations and a substrate, to a process for producing a composite, to a composite obtainable by this process, to chemical products comprising water-absorbing polymeric formations or a composite, to the use of water-absorbing polymeric formations or of a composite in chemical products and also to the use of triallyl isocyanurate as an internal crosslinker in the production of water-absorbing polymeric formations based on crosslinked carboxyl-bearing monomers.

    • A process for producing a water-absorbing polymer comprises: (i) mixing (α1) 0.1-99.99% by weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing acid groups or salts thereof, or ethylenically unsaturated monomers including a protonated or quaternized nitrogen, or mixtures thereof, (α2) 0-70% by weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with (α1), (α3) 0.001-10% by weight of one or more crosslinkers, (α4) 0-30% by weight of water-soluble polymers, and (α5) 0-20% by weight of one or more assistants, where the sum of the weights (α1) to (α5) is 100%; (ii) free-radical polymerization with crosslinking to form an untreated hydrogel polymer; (iii) coarse comminution of the untreated hydrogel polymer to give pieces having a diameter from 0.1 mm to 5.0 cm; (iv) cooling and grinding the untreated hydrogel polymer; (v) drying the untreated hydrogel polymer after grinding at a temperature from 85° C. to 260° C.; (vi) postcrosslinking the hydrogel polymer and (vii) drying the water-absorbing polymer.
