    • An Open Descriptor demanding an access right is transmitted from a personal computer to a DVD player. In response to this demand, the DVD player transmits either an Accept response or a Reject response. Upon receiving the Accept response, the personal computer transmits a Write Descriptor. The Write Descriptor indicates an instruction that data (da) having a data length (le) is written (AuthDe) into an address (Add) of a sender (SD). Upon receiving this Write Descriptor, the DVD player transmits the Accept Write Descriptor indicating that the writing instruction has been accepted. Thus, in an authentication protocol, data is transmitted in accordance with the size of the buffer for use in an electronic machine.

    • A transmitting system consisting of a control apparatus and a target apparatus connected mutually via an IEEE1394 bus wherein unitary data having an isochronous gap for transmission of audio main data and an asynchronous gap for transfer of command data are transmitted between the control apparatus and the target apparatus via the bus. The control apparatus includes a unit for sending an identifier to identify the target apparatus by the use of the asynchronous gap, and also a command to request transfer of a signal level from the target apparatus. The target apparatus includes a unit for receiving the identifier from the sending unit of the control apparatus via the IEEE1394 bus and also the command to request transfer of the signal level of the target apparatus; and a unit for sending an audio signal level in response to the signal-level transfer request command received by the receiving unit. In this system, an output level can be set in and read out from the target apparatus by the control apparatus.

    • When stream data is reproduced through an IEEE-1394 high-speed serial bus from a hard-disk apparatus serving as a source, and is transmitted as is to another hard-disk apparatus through the IEEE-1394 bus and recorded thereinto, if the data is transferred with the use of isochronous communication, entry_type is set to an isochronous track and if the data is transferred with the use of isochronous communication, entry_type is set to an asynchronous track. When the stream data is transmitted, a payload size which indicates the size of the steam data is written into a payload information block in order to obtain a bus channel and a bus bandwidth.
