    • An antenna apparatus 10 includes a chip antenna 14 provided with a conductor 11, a power-supply electrode 12 to which one end of the conductor 11 is connected, and a terminal electrode 13 to which the other end of the conductor is connected; and a mounting substrate 18 provided with a line-shaped radiative conductor 15 formed by printing an electrically conductive material on a surface, a line-shaped conductive pattern 16, and a substantially rectangular ground electrode 17. The chip antenna 14 is mounted on the mounting substrate 18. The power-supply electrode 12 of the chip antenna 14 is connected through the conductive pattern 16 on the mounting substrate 18 to a power-supply source V. The terminal electrode 13 of the chip antenna 14 is connected to one end of the radiative conductor 15 on the mounting substrate 18.

    • A matching circuit and an antenna apparatus which, though small-sized, can be used in a radio apparatus which transmits and receives radio waves having a wide range of frequencies. A matching circuit includes an inductance element formed of a chip inductor connected in series with an antenna body, a first capacitance element formed of a trimmer capacitor, and a second capacitance element formed of a chip capacitor, which capacitance elements are connected between respective ends of the inductance element and a ground terminal, and thus in parallel to the antenna body. One end of the inductance element is connected to the power supply terminal of the antenna body, and the other end is connected to a power source for applying a voltage to the antenna body. The first capacitance element is connected between a ground and the connection point of the power supply terminal of the antenna body and the inductance element. The second capacitance element is connected between a ground and the connection point of the inductance element and the power source.

    • A small radio communication unit which requires no antenna adjustment is provided by using small chip antennas whose gain is not degraded and which have a wide bandwidth. The inventive radio communication unit comprises a first chip antenna contained within the unit and having a first frequency characteristic; a first filter connected to the first antenna and having a pass bandwidth for passing a received signal; a receiving circuit connected to an output end of the first antenna; a receiving PLL circuit for outputting a local oscillation signal; a second chip antenna contained within the unit and having a second frequency characteristic; a second filter connected to the second antenna and having a pass bandwidth for passing a transmitted signal; a transmitting circuit connected to an input end of the second filter and comprising a transmitting carrier oscillation and modulating circuit, a transmission amplifier circuit and an isolator; a control circuit for controlling operations of the receiving circuit and the transmitting circuit; and a modulating signal input terminal to which a modulating signal is applied.

    • A chip antenna which provides a high gain and large band width and which makes it possible to achieve a reduction in the size of the chip antenna. The chip antenna has a dielectric base which is formed as a rectangular parallelepiped containing a spirally wound conductor whose winding axis is perpendicular to the longitudinal dimension of the dielectric base and parallel to the mounting surface. The configuration of the winding cross section S, which is perpendicular to the winding axis of the conductor, is a rectangle whose longitudinal vertical dimension is H and whose horizontal dimension is W. One end of the conductor is led out to the surface of the dielectric base to form a feeding end that is connected to a feeding terminal for applying a signal to the conductor, and the other end thereof forms a free end within the dielectric base.
