    • The invention sets out a method and apparatus of forming a chime projecting radially outwardly of a blow molded hollow member. The chime is formed immediately after the blow molding of the hollow member by forming a radially outwardly projecting channel-shaped part in the side wall of the hollow member. The surfaces of the channel-shaped part are moved toward each other to form a welded connection at the radially inner end of the channel-shaped part. The movement of the channel-shaped part to form the chime is effected by telescoping slides which move axially at different stroke speeds and at different stroke lengths. The radially inwardly most disposed slide moves farthest and faster so as to produce a rolling movement of the channel-shaped part as the chime is formed. The resulting chime is integrally formed from the material of the hollow member and includes at least an outer wall extending circumferentially around the hollow member and a side wall to which the outer wall is welded at its inner radial end.

    • An extruder head for extrusion blow-molding plastic containers includes a ring gap nozzle with a mandrel and a ring-shaped nozzle body. An elastically deformable sleeve is arranged on an end of the nozzle outlet side and defines a gap width which can be varied by axial setting movements of the mandrel and/or the nozzle body. The geometry of the nozzle gap can be influenced by radially deforming the sleeve with setting devices during the extrusion of a hose-shaped preformed blank. The sleeve may be moved in a radial direction and is guided on sliding surfaces which support it in upward and downward directions. The sleeve may be in the form of a cylinder or tube. A lower edge of the sleeve shapes a cross-section of a melt stream exiting from the ring gap nozzle.

    • A method for the extrusion of preforms (1), which exit from a die gap of an extrusion head (4) delimited by a mandrel (2) and a die ring (3), and are widened in a blow mold (5). The width of the die gap is changed during the extrusion of the preforms, by means of a setting movement of the mandrel and/or of the die ring. The cross-sectional geometry of an elastically deformable sleeve (9) disposed on the extrusion head (4) and delimiting the die gap on the circumference side is also changed during the extrusion of the preforms. By means of setting movements of an additional element (10) that is controlled or regulated separately, the melt distribution on the circumference side is changed at least in that section of the preforms (1) that is widened to form an upper barrel end in the blow mold (5). In this connection, the deformation of the sleeve (9) and the setting movements of the additional element (10) are coordinated with one another in such a manner that the upper region of the barrels widened in the blow mold has no deviations in thickness from default values in the circumference direction.
