    • In accordance with exemplary embodiments of the invention there is a method and apparatus to detect with a hybrid automatic repeat request function a collision between an uplink packet re-transmission and a new uplink packet transmission within a hybrid automatic repeat request process, and in response, to dynamically allocating resources for transmitting the new uplink packet transmission in a different hybrid automatic repeat request process that does not collide with the uplink packet re-transmission. In accordance with other exemplary embodiments of the invention, there is a method and apparatus to transmit a packet re-transmission in a hybrid automatic repeat request process using a semi-persistently scheduled uplink resource, and responsive to receiving a dynamic allocation of a different hybrid automatic repeat request process, to transmit a new packet using the dynamically allocated different hybrid automatic repeat request process.

    • A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided that determine the length of an idle period, such as the idle period preceding a DL-to-UL switch point, and then insert a symbol including reference signal(s) (RS) at a position within a downlink slot that varies based upon the length of the idle period. A method, apparatus and computer program product are also provided according to another aspect that determine the length of an idle period, receive a plurality of symbols within a downlink slot and then recognize a symbol including RS at a position within the downlink slot that varies based upon the length of the idle period. Accordingly, the method, apparatus and computer program product permit the position of the symbol including RS within a downlink slot to be varied while still providing the reference signals that are required in order to permit accurate recovery of the data.

    • A scrambling sequence is initialized using at least a cell identifier and an offset, and a physical downlink control information DCI is sent to a user equipment which indicates the offset. In more particular embodiments a user equipment-specific reference signal UE-RS is scrambled using the initialized scrambling sequence, and the scrambled UE-RS is sent to the UE for demodulating a downlink shared channel (PDSCH). In another exemplary embodiment the generated UE-RS is sent in a pilot part of a subframe transmission associated with the PDSCH and is for demodulating at least a data part of that subframe transmission. In a specific embodiment from the UE side, the UE receives the UE-RS and the DCI which indicates the offset, descrambles the UE-RS using a scrambling sequence that is initialized using a cell identifier and the indicated offset; and demodulates the PDSCH using the de-scrambled UE-RS.
