    • A basic azo dyestuff of the formula

      WHEREIN A is an aromatic or heterocyclic diazo component, R1 and R2 each is primary, secondary or tertiary amino or hydrazino, R3 is cyano, carbo lower alkoxy, carbamoyl, lower alkyl carbamoyl, di lower alkyl carbamoyl, lower alkylsulfonyl or phenylsulfonyl, R4 is lower alkyl, substituted lower alkyl or phenyl, m is 1 or 2 and X is an anion and at least one of the groups A, R1, R2 and R4 contain a quaternary ammonium group of the formula

      wherein Y1 and Y2 are hydrogen, lower alkyl, benzyl or cyclohexyl, Y3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, benzyl, cyclohexyl, lower alkoxy or amino or the nitrogen atom forms together with Y1 and Y2 or Y3 a heterocyclic ring. The novel dyestuffs are suitable for the preparation of writing and stamping inks or ball pen pastes and can be used for rubber printing. They are also suitable for the dyeing, printing or mass dyeing of tannined cellulose fibers, silk, hair, leather, coco fibers, jute, sisal or synthetic fibers, such as acetate silk, polyamide fibers or acid modified polyolefin, polyamide or polyester fibers, especially, however, of fibers containing polyacrylonitrile or polyvinylidene cyanide. The dyeings obtained on these fibers have, mostly, a high tinctorial strength and, in general, good fastnesses to light and to wet processing.

    • IN WHICH Z1 stands for an optionally substituted alkyl or aralkyl group, K for the radical of a coupling component and A for an anion, and X, Y and Z are defined as further above. These dyestuffs, which are especially suitable for dyeing polyacrylonitrile, have a high tinctorial strength and generally afford good fastness properties.

      WHEREIN X is amino, alkylamino with 1 - 6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy- lower alkylamino, hydroxy- lower alkylamino, amino- lower alkylamino, di-lower alkylamino - lower alkylamino, cyclohexylamino, benzylamino, furfurylamino, pyridylamino, pyridylmethylamino, phenylamino, lower alkoxy-phenylamino, dilower alkylamino, di-hydroxy lower alkylamino, lower alkyl hydroxy lower alkylamino, lower alkyl phenylamino, hydroxy lower alkyl cyclohexylamino, hydroxy lower alkyl lower alkoxyamino, lower alkyl lower alkoxyamino, morpholyl, piperidyl, N- lower alkyl piperazinyl, pyrrolidinyl, morpholyl- lower alkylamino; hydrazino, lower alkylhydrazino, di-lower alkylhydrazino, trilower alkylhydrazino, phenylhydrazino, N-piperidylamino, Nmorpholyalmino, N-pyrrolidinylamino,- lower alkoxy, lower alkoxy - lower alkoxy, cyclohexyloxy, phenoxy, benzyloxy, hydroxy lower alkoxy; lower alkylthio, phenylthio; Y is hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy -lower alkyl, di-lower alkylamino -lower alkyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, furyl, pyridyl-methyl and Z is hydrogen or lower alkyl and ''''lower'''' means groups with one to four carbon atoms. These compounds are valuable intermediate products for the preparation of dyestuffs, especially of azo dyestuffs of the formula
