    • The present device is a liquid jet recorder having a capillary nozzle out of which an electrically conductive ink jet is expelled by pressure, and a control electrode or tube coaxially surrounding the path of the jet, the wall of the tube being porous to the ink and formed of an electrically conductive material. Charging means are included for charging the jet at one potential and the electrode at another potential. The recording surface upon which the ink jet is intended to selectively write is provided with means for selectively charging the surface at a potential which repels any drops of the jet from striking the surface.

    • Ink-jet recorder apparatus including means to form a jet stream of droplets at a drop formation point and electrode means to control the direction of droplet travel. The electrode means are formed of only two electrodes, the first of which is used to place electrical charges, if required, on the droplets and the second of which is used in conjunction with the first electrode to establish and maintain an electric field for controlling the direction of travel and ultimate disposition of the droplets, e.g., on a record receiving member or in a liquid collector for those droplets not directed onto the record receiving member. The apparatus may be operated to carry out two different techniques of ink-jet recording - that of U.S. Pat. No. 3,416,153 and U.S. Pat. No. 3,596,275. The apparatus is suitable for handling a plurality of ink jets to print alphanumerical characters.

    • Apparatus and method for printing one or more copies. Mirrorreversed, transferable liquid ink jet indicia are formed on a transfer surface and then immediately transferred to one or more webs maintained in continuous contact with the surface to form one or more copies. In forming multiple copies, the contact between the transfer surface and the webs is such as to transfer only a portion of the ink to each of the webs in turn. If the same transfer surface is used continually, means may be provided to remove any residual ink from the surface prior to the formation of succeeding liquid indicia. Alternatively, the surface may be continually changed, in which case residual ink does not present any problems.

    • A method of measuring the level of a material filled into a tank by using a substantially vertical electromagnetic delay line partly submerged in the material so that the submerged part of the line has another characteristic impedance than the line part above the level of the material, sending an electric pulse down the delay line and measuring the time it takes the pulse to reach the level of the material and the time it takes the pulse reflection generated at the level of the material to return to the input end of the line as a measure of the level of the material in the tank. An apparatus for this method has an electronic oscillating system connected to the input end of the delay line and comprising a triggered pulse generator and a pulse reflection detecting means for triggering the pulse generator each time a pulse reflection appears at the input end of the delay line, and a pulse repetition frequency meter connected to the electronic oscillating system for indicating the oscillating frequency thereof as a measure of the level of the material in the tank.
