摘要： A ferromagnetic fluid can be used to provide a temporary barrier in a wellbore. A magnetic sub can generate an electromagnetic field within the wellbore. The ferromagnetic fluid is retained at a desired location within the wellbore by the electromagnetic field. Ferromagnetic particles in the fluid can clump together or settle to form the temporary barrier. A zonal isolation fluid such as a metallic fluid, a cement composition, or a curable resin composition can be introduced on top of the temporary barrier. The zonal isolation fluid can solidify to form a permanent or semi-permanent barrier to provide zonal isolation of different zones of the subterranean formation.

摘要： This disclosure presents a method and process to improve the accuracy of the calculations for true vertical depth and Eastings and Northings pair of a borehole while drilling operations are in progress. The method utilizes continuous survey parameters that are collected while drilling operations are in progress, and that have been collected between two neighboring stationary survey parameters. The stationary survey parameters are assumed to be ground truth and are fused with an invertible solution to a low order polynomial to generate the true vertical depth and an Eastings and Northings pair at each continuous survey location. An objective function can be used to optimize and solve the polynomial. The method can be performed on a well site controller, a geo-steering system, a bottom hole assembly, or other computing system capable of receiving the collected measurements, performing the method steps, and communicating the resultant borehole position parameters to other systems.

摘要： Control valves can allow for a steering assembly of a drill string. An exemplary control valve can include a first valve element including a first orifice, the first valve element being movable by actuation by a motor, and a second valve element including an orifice, wherein flow passing through the first valve element orifice passes through the second orifice and into a flow channel to be in fluid communication with a piston bore to exert pressure against a piston movable within the piston bore, the piston being coupled to a steering pad for applying force against the wellbore wall to steer a direction of the drill string. The first valve element is movable with respect to the second valve element to change flow through the first valve element orifice and the second valve element orifice to modify fluid pressure within the flow channel that is exerted against the piston.

摘要： A process for manufacturing a perforation gun casing includes providing a perforation gun housing that has a wall of nominal thickness and at least one scallop. Each scallop is a portion of the wall having a reduced thickness relative to the nominal wall thickness. The process also includes applying a selective annealing process to the perforation gun casing. The selective annealing process affects the material properties of the scallop but generally does not substantially affect the material properties of the portions of the wall having a nominal thickness.

摘要： Disclosed embodiments include a distributed nondestructive inspection method and system for slickline cable structural defect and mechanical strength degradation inspection. One method may include transmitting a light pulse along an optical fiber embedded in a slickline cable. A reflected light signal is received from the optical fiber in response to the local strain induced refractive index variation. Defects and mechanical strength degradation may be determined by time-dependent time-domain and frequency-domain data analyses of the dynamic strain signals and power spectral density variation as a function of time and cable location.
