    • An apparatus of reducing noise includes: an edge determining module determining whether each pixel of an image corresponds to an edge; a low pass filter module performing low pass filtering of the image in two directions and performing low pass filtering only for the pixel determined not to be the edge; a filter selecting module selecting a filter having a flexible size to be applied to a mask region for each of the images low pass filtered based on the average brightness of the entire region and the average brightness of the mask region having a predetermined size; a sigma filter module sigma filtering the mask region using the selected filter for each of the images low pass filtered; and an averaging module averaging the image sigma filtered in the two directions.

    • A method for removing noise of an image. The method includes: (a) detecting a horizontal edge by applying a horizontal edge detection filter to a predetermined pixel field including a notice pixel and neighboring pixel in a vertical direction in image data; (b) judging whether horizontal line noise exists in the predetermined pixel field through the horizontal edge; (c) calculating the number of pixels determined as the horizontal line noise for each horizontal line of the image data by applying steps (a) and (b) to all horizontal lines of the image data; and (d) removing the horizontal line noise by applying a low pass filter to the horizontal line judged to have the horizontal line noise according to the calculation result of step (c).

    • The present invention relates to an image processing device and a method for processing an image. The image processing device includes a brightness improvement unit to improve a brightness of inputted images by increasing a brightness of a dark image more darker than a knee point among inputted images with reference to a predetermined knee point and decreasing a brightness of an image more brighter than the knee point; and a contrast improvement unit to improve a contrast of the image outputted from the brightness improvement unit. The image processing device and the method for processing the image can reduce a distortion phenomenon and a saturation phenomenon or the like by reflecting the characteristics of images during the brightness improvement and contrast improvement of the images.
