    • A communication system having an adaptive antenna array subsystem generates calibration information for the adaptive array subsystem by measuring the amplitude and phase of modulated signals within the subsystem at the antenna array mount and at the back plane mount for the transmit and receive array. The calibration information is used to more accurately perform beamforming for both received an transmitted information signals. The communication system uses a time diversity duplex (TDD) synchronous code division multiple access (SCDMA) protocol for wireless communication between remote terminals and a base station. The calibration means uses a combination combiner and splitter having matched micro strip lines incorporated into a printed circuit board in either the antenna array mount or the back plane.

    • Efficient search window storage schemes for motion estimation in video signal processing are disclosed. According to one embodiment, motion estimation is carried out as follows: allocating a ring buffer to store at least critical number of macro-blocks of luminance data from a reference frame on the motion estimator, establishing a rule to relate each storage unit of the ring buffer with each of the macro-blocks of the reference frame, initializing the ring buffer by reading in one less than the critical number of macro-blocks from the reference frame, when the macro-block is located next to a border of the reference frame, generating one or more added border macro-blocks and storing into the corresponding position of the ring buffer in accordance with the rule, constructing the search window from the macro-blocks stored in the ring buffer, and conducting motion estimation of the current macro-block of the current frame with the search window.

    • Techniques to control computing systems without the physical touches by operators are disclosed. According to one aspect of the techniques, a non-touch operation system comprises a display unit for displaying operating objects, a capture unit for capturing images of an operator, an image processing unit, a line of sight analysis unit, a notification unit, an action analysis unit and an operation execution unit. The image processing unit is provided for calculating head's position parameters and eye's position parameters according to the captured images. The line of sight analysis unit is provided for determining a watching point of the operator on the display unit according to the calculated head's and eye's parameters and further determining one operating object according to the watching point. The notification unit is provided for informing the operator of the determined operating object in an apperceive way. The action analysis unit is provided for identifying an action of the operator according to one parameter of the calculated head' and eye's position parameters and further determining an action instruction corresponding to the action of the operator. The operation execution unit is provided for executing operation depending on the determined operator object and the determined action instruction.

    • A method an apparatus for analyzing biomolecules is described. The method includes injecting and storing one species of ionized molecule in a linear ion trap and injecting second species of oppositely polarity ionized molecule such that the second species is transmitted through the stored first species. The resultant reaction products may be analyzed by a mass analyzed taking account of the remaining charge values. In an aspect, a linear ion trap may be used as the reaction volume, and the ionized species injected along the axis of the trap in a substantially collinear manner. The mass analysis may be performed by mass selective axial ejection or by a mass spectrometer.

    • Techniques for transmitting data between devices based on two-dimensional symbols are disclosed, where the devices are generally not equipped with the traditional networking capabilities, or at least these traditional networking capabilities are not used for the data communication. According to one aspect of the techniques, two devices communicate with each other by displaying one or more two-dimensional symbols. Data is encoded into one or more symbols that are displayed on one of the devices. Images of the symbols are taken by another one of the devices to receive the data. These images are sequentially processed and decoded so that the data is now received. To accommodate various environments, the system is configured to adjust parameters pertaining to the symbols to achieve an optimum transmission rate.
