Host software programs provide data routing, automatic reestablishment of the data link, and other functions. The system is adaptable to a wide array of use environments through the selection of timer parameters in the end device.

    • An apparatus for forming selectively coated areas on a substrate comprises an extrudate remover configured to selectively remove coating from a selected portion of the substrate. A chuck is configured to secure the substrate. A coating die is arranged proximal the substrate and is in fluid communication with a source of fluid extrudate. During relative motion between the substrate and the coating die, fluid extrudate is deposited onto the substrate. A controller is configured to selectively control the relative motion between the substrate and coating remover, and to control operation of the extrudate remover. The invention also provides a method of forming selectively coated areas on a substrate comprising the steps of inducing relative movement between a coating dispenser and the substrate, applying fluid material from the coating dispenser onto the substrate during the relative movement, and selectively removing a portion of the applied fluid from the substrate.

    • A novel method for using product identifiers includes capturing a product identifier identifying a product, selecting one of a plurality of queries, transmitting the product identifier and the selected query to a data provider, and receiving a response to the selected query from the data provider. The method is performed on a personal data device (e.g., a camera phone, PDA, tablet PC et.), which includes a network interface, a scanner operative to capture the product identifier, a user interface operative to receive the query selection, and an application program interface operative to associate the product identifier and the selected query, transmit the product identifier and the selected query to the data provider via the network interface, and to receive the response to the identifier and query from the data provider via the network interface. A method for the data providers to use the product identifiers is also disclosed, and includes receiving a request from a consumer including a unique product identifier and data indicative of the type of information requested, retrieving the type of requested information associated with the particular product from a database, and transmitting the retrieved information to the consumer. The data provider includes a database associating the product identifiers with information corresponding thereto, and means for the providing the associated information to the requesting consumer.

Adverse effects associated with a terminal capacitance from the large area PIN diode may be minimized by maintaining a relatively constant voltage across the input terminals of the amplifier. Noise levels may be minimized by the arrangement of the amplifier circuit and the large area PIN diode resulting in an increased signal-to-noise ratio and an increased gain-bandwidth product. Due to the large numerical aperture of the photo-detector, increased resolution and/or lower output power in a reflective imaging system may be obtained with relatively low cost components. Detection area of the large area PIN diode may be larger than approximately 25 mm2 when compared to typical PIN diodes used in photo-detector applications.
