    • A dirt collecting system for a vacuum cleaner includes a dirt cup formed with a first dirt collecting chamber and a second dirt collecting chamber separated by an apertured wall. An inlet opening is formed in the dirt cup and communicates with the first dirt collecting chamber for inputting a stream of dirt laden air into the first dirt collecting chamber. An exhaust opening is formed in the second dirt collecting chamber for allowing the filtered air stream to exit the dirt cup. The aperture wall includes a pre-filter for filtering coarse particles from a stream of dirt laden air and depositing the coarse particles in the first dirt collecting chamber. A filter member is positioned within the second dirt collecting chamber and communicates with the exhaust port. The filter element filters fine particles from the air stream and deposits the fine particles within the second dirt collecting chamber. The filter member is supported by a filter support which extends from the aperture wall to vertically support the filter member within the second dirt collecting chamber. The aperture wall, filter support and filter member are removably mounted within the dirt cup to provide for removal and cleaning thereof. A lid removalby mounts on the dirt cup and encloses the first and second dirt collecting chamber and is held thereon by a latching mechanism.

    • A feed mechanism for moving a record member into a printing position in which a single control solenoid is energized to enable a pair of drive rollers to move a multi-form record member from a holding position to a printing position. Operation of the solenoid further moves a platen member into engagement with the record member which is spring urged to enable the platen to apply a force on the record member. The force on the platen is selected to compensate for the thickness of the record member allowing a dot matrix printer to print satisfactorily on record members of varying thicknesses. The drive rollers are normally positioned to locate a record member in a validating printing position. Spring means are associated with the drive rollers to engage and hold the record member in a printing position during the operation of the solenoid.

    • A display device comprising a transparent substrate bonded to a portion of a printed circuit board forming the display envelope, the circuit board including a plurality of electrical conductors. A first portion of the electrical conductors has one end forming the cathode electrodes of the display and its other ends connected to electrical control elements mounted on the circuit board adjacent the display envelope.     • A cyclonic dirt cup assembly for a vacuum cleaner has a generally conical truncated cone positioned within a dirt cup of the vacuum cleaner. The dirt cup has a wall formed with an air inlet opening for receiving a stream of dirt-laden air within the dirt cup. The cone is pivotally connected to a frame member which is removably mounted within the dirt cup. A baffle extends outwardly from a wall of the cone and is positioned adjacent the air inlet opening of the dirt cup for directing the stream of dirt-laden air in a cyclonic manner. The baffle includes a top wall, a side wall and a bottom wall. The baffle walls, the wall of the dirt cup and a wall of the cone form an air directing compartment which receives the dirt-laden air input through the inlet opening. The air directing compartment is formed with a side exit opening which provides a tangential opening for the dirt-laden air to exit the air directing compartment and begins a cyclonic action within the container for filtering dirt particles from the airstream. A filter is positioned on the frame member opposite the cone for further filtering the airstream. The cone pivots away from the frame member to provide access to the filter for cleaning thereof.

    • A manually operated release mechanism includes a spring actuated latch mechanism for latching a cash drawer within an enclosure upon movement of the cash drawer to a closed position. A rod member rotatably mounted adjacent the latch mechanism extends to a position adjacent the front edge of the enclosure. A drive member located adjacent the front edge of the enclosure has two cam surfaces, one of which is positioned adjacent one end of the rod member. When the cash drawer is in the closed position, a key actuated locking assembly on the cash drawer moves the drive member to an actuated position which engages and rocks the rod member to a position releasing the latching mechanism from engagement with the cash drawer. A depending tab portion of the cash drawer engages and slides the drive member to a home position upon opening of the drawer. The locking member disables the cash drawer from being operated by a solenoid mounted within the enclosure structure when moved to a locking position.
